The recently reported acenaphthopyrrolone (ACNP) class of fluorophores have remarkably bright emission in the red end of the visible spectrum. We demonstrated that straightforward derivatization with 2-aminoethyl-dipicolylamine yields a selective and sensitive chemosensor for Zn(II). Cd(II) and Hg(II) ions. Further modifications could result in water-soluble derivatives, with practical applications in intracellular imaging of Zn(II) concentrations.

Properties of light emitting diodes following cobalt-60 irridiation
Özcan, Şafak; Günal, İbrahim; Department of Physics (2004)
The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of gamma radiation on the properties of the light emitting diodes. GaP and GaAsP LEDs are used in the study. It is observed that the exposure of a light emitting diode affects its various properties. A cobalt-60 gamma-cell is used to irradiate the selected light emitting diodes. For the different total doses of gamma pre-irradiation and post-irradiation I-V characteristics and spectral responses are recorded. The capacitance characteristics are me...
Selective amplification of analyte atomic signals in microwave-boosted glow discharge atomic emission spectrometry
Ulgen, A; Gokmen, A; Leis, F (2001-01-01)
The possibilities of eliminating spectral interferences caused by molecular bands and lines of the plasma gas in a microwave-boosted glow discharge source (MB-GDS) have been investigated. Suitable modulation of one of the two excitation sources and phase sensitive amplification were used to selectively amplify the signals emitted by the sample atoms. The molecular bands or lines of the plasma gas were hardly influenced by the modulation and did not appear in the amplified spectrum. In particular, the OH lin...
A squaraine-based near IR fluorescent chemosensor for calcium
Akkaya, Engin U.; Türkyılmaz, Serhan (1997-06-23)
A red to NIR emitting, highly Ca2+-specific fluorescent chemosensor has been synthesized. In pH 7.2 aqueous buffers, the chemosensor signals Ca2+ by a decrease in emission intensity, whereas large excess of Mg2+ ions have no effect on either the absorption or the emission spectrum. The chemosensor is likely to be the prototype of a new generation of laser-diode excitable fluorescent chemosensors for Calcium. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
Application of the hot white dwarf atmosphere models to the X-ray data of classical novae
Balman, Şölen (1998-09-10)
The analyses of X-ray emission from classical novae after outburst have shown that the soft X-ray emission below 1 keV, which is thought to originate from the photosphere of the white dwarf, is inconsistent with the simple black body model of emission. Thus, the ROSAT Position Sensitive Proportional Counter (PSPC) data (0.1-2.4 keV) of the classical novae V1974 Cygni 1992 and some others have been reanalyzed in order to understand the spectral development of novae in the X-ray wavelengths during the outburs...
Constraints on dark photon from neutrino-electron scattering experiments
Bilmiş, Selçuk; Turan, İsmail; Alıyev, Tahmasıb (2015-08-21)
A possible manifestation of an additional light gauge boson A', named a dark photon, associated with a group U(1)(B-L), is studied in neutrino-electron scattering experiments. The exclusion plot on the coupling constant g(B-L) and the dark photon mass M-A' is obtained. It is shown that the contributions of interference terms between the dark photon and the Standard Model are important. The interference effects are studied and compared with data sets from TEXONO, GEMMA, BOREXINO, and LSND, as well as CHARM I...
