Application of nonlinear unit root tests and threshold autoregressive models
Uysal, Ela; Yıldırım Kasap, Dilem; Department of Economics (2012)
Popularity of nonlinear threshold models and unit root tests has increased after the recent empirical studies concerning the effects of business cycles on macroeconomic data. These studies have shown that an economic variable may react differently in response to downturns and recoveries in a business cycle. Inspiring from empirical results, this thesis investigates dynamics of Turkish key macroeconomic data, namely capacity utilization rate, growth of import and export volume indices, growth of gross domest...
Numerical modeling of re-suspension and transport of fine sediments in coastal waters
Karadoğan, Erol; Özhan, Erdal; Department of Civil Engineering (2004)
In this thesis, the theory of three dimensional numerical modeling of transport and re-suspension of fine sediments is studied and a computer program is develped for simulation of the three dimensional suspended sediment transport. The computer program solves the three dimensional advection-diffusion equation simultaneously with a computer program prepared earlier for the simulation of three dimensional current systems. This computer program computes the velocity vectors, eddy viscosities and water surface ...
Experimental investigation of the helicopter blade tip shape effects on aerodynamic performance and tip vortex characteristics
Uluocak, Sinem; Perçin, Mustafa; Uzol, Oğuz; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2019)
This study experimentally investigates the effects of different rotor blade tip shapes on the rotor aerodynamic performance and the tip vortex characteristics in hovering flight. Force, torque and flow field measurements were performed on a 1.3 m diameter 5-bladed model rotor for four different blades: rectangular (RECT), anhedral (ANHD), tapered-swept (TAPER) and tapered-swept-anhedral (TSA). Thrust and torque measurements show that all tip modifications have a positive effect on the aerodynamic performance wh...
Critical analysis of zeolite 4A synthesis through one-pot fusion hydrothermal treatment approach for class F fly ash
Akın, Süleyman Şener; Kirdeciler, Salih Kaan; Kazanç Özerinç, Feyza; Akata Kurç, Burcu (2021-10-01)
In this study, ‘‘One-pot fusion assisted hydrothermal synthesis’’ approach was employed to understand the nucleation and crystallization behaviour of the fusion product of Class F fly ash for zeolite 4A synthesis. Two sets of experiments were conducted by tailoring the control parameter of H2O/Na2O molar ratio (L/S) to investigate the nucleation and crystallization behaviour of zeolite 4A. The molar ratios of SiO2/Al2O3 and Na2O/SiO2 were tuned before alkali fusion by adding different amounts of Al(OH)3 to ...
Seismic response of a rubble mound breakwater in Turkey
Yuksel, Y; Çetin, Kemal Önder; Ozguven, O; Isik, NS; Cevik, E; Sumer, BM (Thomas Telford Ltd., 2004-12-01)
This paper presents analyses of seismically induced deformations at Eregli Fishery Port breakwater during the 1999 Kocaeli (Izmit), Turkey earthquake. The paper discusses: (a) observed ground deformations and displacements after the earthquake; (b) the results of field investigations by means of borings including standard penetration tests; (c) analyses of observed deformation mechanisms by a suite of methods; and (d) the possible contribution of soil liquefaction rupture on the observed deformations.
