Natural and synthetic borates find widespread use in different industries. Among synthetic borates, the lithium borate compounds, lithium tetraborate (Li2B4O7) and lithium triborate (LiB3O5) are very important due to their thermoluminescence (TL) properties and usage potential in radiational dosimetry. It is possible to define the phenomenon of thermoluminescence (TL) or thermally stimulated luminescence (TSL) in several different ways, the simplest of which is emission of light when an irradiated material is heated. First major utilization area of thermoluminescence is the "radiation dosimetry". Radiation dosimetry is simply the measurement and/or calculation of the absorbed dose from an exposure to ionizing radiation in tissue and in matter. When a dosimeter is employed to measure the radiation in a tissue, i.e., the radiation that a person is exposed to, it is used either in personnel dosimetry or medical dosimetry.

USE OF BORIC ACID AS A BINDER FOR BRIQUETTING SOME BORON MINE WASTES AND THEIR CALCINED PRODUCTS
ŞENER, SAVAŞ; ÖZBAYOĞLU, GÜLHAN; Ozdemir, Zeynep (2010-01-01)
In this study, boric acid as a binder for briquetting some boron mine wastes, such as colemanite and ulexite fines and calcined products, which do not meet the market specifications with respect to particle size, were investigated. Effects of water and binder contents, applied pressure, and curing and drying conditions on the briquette quality were evaluated in terms of mechanical strength, water-proofing characteristics and wearing resistance. The best briquettes were obtained at 62.4 MPa pressure (cured a...
Application of X-ray CT imaging as an alternative tool for cloud point determination
Karacan, C.Ö.; Demiral, M.R.B.; Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2000-01-01)
This study explains the use of X-Ray CT (computerized tomography) as an alternative tool for cloud point determination of crude oils and dark fuel oils by showing the results for artificially prepared transparent oils. The technique is fully computerized and data gathering and analysis are achieved by taking the advantage of the processing of the CT images. In the study, the cloud points of diesel oil samples containing 5%, 10% and 15% additional wax were determined with this new technique. Results show tha...
Fate of nonylphenol compounds in aerobic batch reactors
Ömeroğlu, Seçil; Sanin, Faika Dilek; Department of Environmental Engineering (2012)
Today, numerous studies indicate the presence of synthetic organics such as nonylphenol (NP) compounds in wastewater. NP compounds are a group of chemicals including nonylphenol, nonylphenol polyethoxylates (NPnEO) and nonylphenoxy polyethoxy acetic acids (NPnEC). Since NP compounds have significant industrial, commercial and domestic use, they enter environmental systems and reach human beings from various pathways. Their presence is of concern because they are toxic, carcinogenic and endocrine disrupting ...
Synthesis of fused tetrazolone derivatives
Ozcan, Sevil; Ekmekci, Zeynep; Mujde, Berk; Balcı, Metin (2013-01-01)
New fused tetrazolone derivatives were synthesized using homophthalic and maleic anhydrides. Treatment of anhydrides with trimethylsilyl azide opened the lactone rings and formed the corresponding intermediates, which bore 1,3-dipole and dipolarophile functionalities in ortho positions. The intermediates partially underwent internal 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition to produce fused tetrazolone derivatives. When the carbonyl groups in anhydride were not conjugated with any double bond, then a triazine-fused tetrazo...
Synthesis, spectroscopic and electrochemical studies of perylene containing conjugated copolymers
Bayseç, Şebnem; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Yılmaz, Levent; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2013)
The synthesis , spectroscopic and electrochemical properties of a series of donor-acceptor (DA) type polymers by changing the donor unit (thiophene, dithienopyrrole) polymer backbone were investigated. The synthesized CoP1 and CoP2 were designed to investigate the effect of copolymerization and insertion of perylene tetracarboxylic dimide (PDI) on the structure of benzotriazole (BTz) based polymers. For CoP1 1,7-dibromo-perylene diimide,4,7-dibromo-2-dodecyl-2H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazole and 2,5 bis(tributylsta...
