Modelling of two-phase flow through concentric annuli
Ozbayoglu, M. E.; Omurlu, C. (Informa UK Limited, 2007-01-01)
A mathematical model is introduced in order to predict the flow characteristics of multiphase flow through an annulus. Flow patterns and frictional pressure losses estimated using the proposed model are compared with the experimental data of a wide range of liquid and gas flow rates recorded at a flow loop consisting of numerous circular pipes and annulus. The results showed that the model predictions for flow patterns and frictional pressure losses are reasonably accurate. Moreover, it is observed that geo...
Modelling of variable friction in cold forging
Cora, Oe N.; Akkök, Metin; Darendeliler, Haluk (2008-11-01)
In metal forming operations, the friction between die and workpiece is a complex phenomenon and has a strong influence on the metal forming parameters and the product quality This study aims to investigate the effect of friction in cold forging operations using different friction models. In the analyses, the forging operations are simulated using the Coulomb and constant friction models, and the results are compared with the simulation results obtained by using the variable friction models developed by Wanh...
Modelling of dropwise condensation on a cylindrical surface including the sweeping effect
Özler, Talip Emrah; Yamalı, Cemil; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2007)
The purpose of this study was to analyze the dropwise condensation on a cylindrical surface including the sweeping effect theoretically. For this purpose, first the problem of the equilibrium shape and departure size of drops on the outer surface of a cylinder was formulated. The equations of the surface of the drop were obtained by minimizing (for a given volume) the total energy of the drop which consists of surface and gravitational energy by using the techniques of variational calculus. The departure si...
Modelling of non-uniform DC driven glow discharge in argon gas
Rafatov, İsmail; BILIKMEN, S. (Elsevier BV, 2007-07-16)
Physical properties of non-uniform DC-driven glow discharge in argon at pressure 1 torr are analyzed numerically. Spatially two-dimensional axial-symmetric model is based on the diffusion-drift theory of gas discharge. Results presented compare favorably with the classic theory of glow discharges and exhibit good agreement with the experimental result. Comparison with the result of spatially one-dimensional model is performed. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All fights reserved.
Modelling of a spherical electric discharge at atmospheric pressure under higher modes of incident microwaves
Rafatov, İsmail; LELEVKIN, VM (Wiley, 2005-01-01)
We present a spherical microwave discharge model, which takes into account the higher modes of the incident electromagnetic waves. The discharge model is constructed on the basis of the channel approximation of the LTE plasma. Numerical experiments are carried out for the discharge in an argon at atmospheric pressure. Results are presented for the characteristics of the discharge plasma against the external parameters (the size of the discharge chamber and the applied electromagnetic field mode, power and f...
