Multicast Beamforming with Antenna Selection Using Alternating Maximization
Demir, Özlem Tuğfe; Tuncer, Temel Engin (2015-05-19)
Multi-group multicast beamforming problem with antenna selection is considered in this paper. The rank one constraint which makes the problem nonconvex is embedded into the objective function using exact penalty function. The resulting problem has a bilinear objective function with convex constraints. The equivalent problem is solved iteratively using alternating maximization where a convex optimization problem is solved at each step. Using antenna selection with this effective approach further reduces the ...
Investigations of upscaling effects for aerodynamic design of large wind turbine rotors by using BEM theory and optimization
Kesikbaş, Ozan.; Sezer Uzol, Nilay; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2019)
In recent years, wind power has become one of the most preferred and accepted renewable energy sources. However, there are still design challenges of new wind turbines especially upscaling problems as the size of rotor blades gets larger and larger. The main objective of this research is to understand scaling effects on wind turbine design by investigating and developing new design and scaling methodologies. For the design studies, the 5 MW NREL wind turbine is used as the baseline rotor. For the upscaling ...
Field oriented control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor using space vector modulated direct AC-AC matrix converter
Yıldırım, Doğan; Ersak, Aydın; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2012)
The study designs and constructs a three-phase to three-phase direct AC–AC matrix converter based surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive system. First, the matrix converter topologies are analyzed and the state-space equations describing the system have been derived in terms of the input and output variables. After that, matrix converter commutation and modulation methods are investigated. A four-step commutation technique based on output current direction provides safe commutation ...
Image generation using only a discriminator network with gradient norm penalty
Yeşilçimen, Cansu Cemre; Akbaş, Emre; Department of Computer Engineering (2022-9)
This thesis explores the idea of generating images using only a discriminator network by extending a previously proposed method (Tapli, 2021) in several ways. The base method works by iteratively updating the input image, which is pure noise at the beginning while increasing the discriminator's score. We extend the training procedure of the base network by adding the following new losses: (i) total variation, (ii) N-way classification (if labels are available), and (iii) gradient norm penalty on real exam...
Fuzzy decision fusion for single target classification in wireless sensor networks
Gök, Sercan; Yazıcı, Adnan; Department of Computer Engineering (2009)
Nowadays, low-cost and tiny sensors are started to be commonly used due to developing technology. Wireless sensor networks become the solution for a variety of applications such as military applications. For military applications, classification of a target in a battlefield plays an important role. Target classification can be done effectively by using wireless sensor networks. A wireless sensor node has the ability to sense the raw signal data in battlefield, extract the feature vectors from sensed signal ...
