Short and long term variations in the concentrations of gaseous and particulate pollutants in Ankara and assessment of traffic contribution
Genç, Derya Deniz; Tuncel, Süleyman Gürdal; Department of Chemistry (2005)
Spatial and temporal variations and factors affecting these variations in concentrations of measured parameters at two different groups of stations in Ankara are investigated in this study. The first group consists of three curbside stations that are under the direct influence of traffic emissions, on the other hand, the other group is composed of eight residential stations in which domestic heating is the main emission source. State of air quality in Ankara is determined through comparison with air quality...

Life cycle cost and environmental impact analysis of ship hull maintenance strategies for a short route hybrid ferry
Wang, Haibin; Oğuz, Elif; Jeong, Byongug; Zhou, Peilin (Elsevier BV, 2018-08-01)
This paper provides a general insight into the importance of proper hull maintenance and suggests an optimal maintenance strategy for ship operators from both an economic and environmental point of view. Results of life cycle assessment show that significant cost reductions can be obtained by renewing steels every 10 years within the proposed hull maintenance strategy. The assessment also indicates that annual hull inspections and re-coating can contribute to reducing hull resistance and hence fuel consumpt...
Lifetime performance analysis of existing prestressed concrete bridge superstructures
Akgül, Ferhat (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2004-12-01)
A general methodology for lifetime performance analysis of existing prestressed concrete girder bridges is presented. Only the superstructure components (slab and girders) are considered. The framework for the methodology is established by identifying four distinct categories: limit state equations, random variables, deterministic parameters, and constant coefficients. The limit state equations are derived by strictly adhering to the load and capacity formulas and requirements set forth in AASHTO specificat...
