Criteria for a bridge management system based on inspection, monitoring and maintenance practices
Akgül, Ferhat (2006-10-18)
Numerous bridge management systems have been developed around the world for different bridge administrations and agencies. These systems are mostly built on common tasks and models aiming at cost optimal maintenance of a bridge stock. The main task is the prioritization and ranking of bridges in a network. However, the level of inspections, the procedures used for the evaluation of load carrying capacity and various other criteria for bridge monitoring and safety change from one administration to another. I...
Evaluation of the pricing preferences and value of time for high speed rail (HSR) users in Turkey
Tüydeş Yaman, Hediye; Dalkıç Melek, Gülçin (2019-01-01)
High Speed Rail (HSR), a new intercity passenger mode in Turkey, has high travel time reduction potential and competes against both road and air travel modes. A survey among the current HSR users showed that pricing at intercity bus ticket level is a factor increasing the preferability of HSR. If HSR ticket price is more than bus ticket price, 60 0 of the HSR users stated to prefer HSR, while only 40 0 stated preference, if HSR is priced equal to air ticket prices. Binary logit models developed in the study...
Evaluation of the effectiveness of English courses in Sivas anatolian high schools
Yel, Arzu; Daloğlu, Ayşegül; Department of English Language Teaching (2009)
This study evaluates the English language courses for 9, 10, 11, and 12th grades in Anatolian high schools in Sivas. The participants of the study were 200 students who were enrolled in the courses and 20 teachers who taught them. The quantitative data were obtained through different course evaluation questionnaires for students and teachers. The eclectic evaluation model employed in this study was structured by adapting the evaluation models suggested by Bellon and Handler (1982) and Brown (1989). The resu...
Guidelines for automating Phase I of control charts by considering effects on Phase-II performance of individuals control chart
Atalay, Murat; TESTİK, MURAT CANER; Duran, Serhan; Weiss, Christian H. (Informa UK Limited, 2019-09-11)
With the advances in measurement technologies, today products and processes may have hundreds of variables that can be monitored. As the number of variables to be monitored in a process increases, a cumbersome task is the design of control charts, especially when one needs to estimate unknown process parameters. In Phase-I control chart implementations, a set of samples that are ideally from an in-control process is formed by iteratively eliminating/retaining potentially out-of-control samples and this is t...
Guidelines for building experimental mobile robots with off-the-shelf components
Özkil, Ali Gürcan; Koku, Ahmet Buğra; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2008)
Robotics is an emerging field, and it is also affecting several other fields. Design of robotic platforms gains more importance since the focus and aim of the robotics research broadens widely and the variety of the users is significant. This work aims to present the design of a modular mobile robotic platform, which should be simple, easy to build and easy to use. The concept of modularity, usage of off-the shelf components and utilizing a PC platform, are addressed in this work. As a result of this work, ...
