The economic lot-sizing problem with remanufacturing options
Van Den Heuvel , Wilco; Bayındır, Zeynep Pelin; Teunter, Ruud; Wagelmans , Albert (null; 2005-07-11)
We consider an extension of the economic lot-sizing problem. Besides producing new items there is an option of remanufacturing returned items to satisfy demand. We show that the problem is polynomially solvable in the case of a single production line and NP-hard in the case of dedicated production lines.
The Air cargo scheduling problem with heterogenous fleet
Durdak, Yavuz; Süral, Haldun; Gürel, Sinan; Department of Industrial Engineering (2013)
In this study, we consider the Air Cargo Scheduling Problem based on a real life application. The aim is to move cargo and passengers that have different priorities and delivery time window, from a number of origin airports to destination airports by means of a transportation system. The system has predefined carrier routes and a heterogeneous fleet of aircraft. The problem is formulated as a heterogeneous vehicle, multi commodity, pick-up, and delivery network flow problem with a large set of system specif...
The multiple retailer inventory routing problem with backorders
Alişan, Onur; Süral, Haldun; Department of Industrial Engineering (2008)
In this study we consider an inventory routing problem in which a supplier distributes a single product to multiple retailers in a finite planning horizon. Retailers should satisfy the deterministic and dynamic demands of end customers in the planning horizon, but the retailers can backorder the demands of end customers considering the supply chain costs. In each period the supplier decides the retailers to be visited, and the amount of products to be supplied to each retailer by a fleet of vehicles. The de...
The cutting stock problem with diameter conversion inthe construction industry
Altınpulluk, Deniz; Süral, Haldun; Department of Industrial Engineering (2019)
The one-dimensional cutting stock problem has been widely used for reinforcementsteel bar (rebar) in the construction industry. Diameter sizes of rebars are determinedby the structural designer to provide tensile strength to the structure, and they can bechanged if the ratio of cross-section area of rebars to the concrete area stays constant. The decision maker can decide to convert diameter size to generate better cuttingpatterns. Besides, the time dimension is considered by assuming the mult...
The Single-item lot sizing problem in SMT production lines
Serin, Harun; Süral, Haldun; Bakal, İsmail Serdar; Department of Industrial Engineering (2014)
In this study, we examine the single-item lot sizing problem in surface mount technology (SMT) production lines which consist of a single automated pick-and-place surface mount equipment (SME). In our problem setting, processing and set up times depend on the component assignment to the component pockets on an SME. Blank body loading and component pack capacities are also taken into account. We propose an integrated mathematical model to the single-item lot sizing problem in SMT production lines where lot s...
