MARTI and MRSD: Newly Developed Isolation-Damping Devices with Adaptive Hardening for Seismic Protection of Structures
Dicleli, Murat (null; 2015-07-15)
In this paper, a summary of analytical and experimental studies into the behavior of a new hysteretic damper, designed for seismic protection of structures is presented. The Multidirectional Torsional Hysteretic Damper (MRSD) is a patented invention in which a symmetrical arrangement of identical cylindrical steel cores is so configured as to yield in torsion while the structure experiences planar movements due to earthquake shakings. The new device has certain desirable properties. Notably, it is character...
Pati-Salam unification from noncommutative geometry and the TeV-scale W-R boson
Aydemir, Ufuk; Minic, Djordje; Sun, Chen; Takeuchi, Tatsu (2016-01-01)
We analyze the compatibility of the unified left-right symmetric Pati-Salam models motivated by noncommutative geometry and the TeV-scale right-handed W boson suggested by recent LHC data. We find that the unification/matching conditions place conflicting demands on the symmetry breaking scales and that generating the required W-R mass and coupling is nontrivial.
Tresca's yield criterion and linearly hardening rotating solid disks having hyperbolic profiles
Eraslan, Ahmet Nedim (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2004-12-01)
An analytical solution for the stress distribution in rotating hyperbolic solid disk is obtained under plane stress assumption. The analysis is based on Tresca's yield criterion, its associated flow rule and linear strain hardening material behavior. It is shown that the deformation behavior of the hyperbolic solid disk is different from that of the constant thickness disk. The plastic core consists of three different plastic regions with different mathematical forms of the yield criterion. Accordingly, thr...
GANILLA: Generative adversarial networks for image to illustration translation
Hicsonmez, Samet; Samet, Nermin; Akbaş, Emre; DUYGULU ŞAHİN, PINAR (Elsevier BV, 2020-03-01)
In this paper, we explore illustrations in children's books as a new domain in unpaired image-to-image translation. We show that although the current state-of-the-art image-to-image translation models successfully transfer either the style or the content, they fail to transfer both at the sametime. We propose a new generator network to address this issue and show that the resulting network strikes a better balance between style and content. There are no well-defined or agreed-upon evaluation metrics for unp...
LPL++: Object logic programming language with built-in inheritance through unification
Toroslu, İsmail Hakkı (Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), 1998-03-01)
In this paper, an object logic programming language is proposed that captures ail of the basic object-oriented concepts in standard logic programming environment. This paper combines and extends two previously proposed models, namely Conery's technique (1988) which uses first-order logic to model objects including all of the basic object-oriented concepts except inheritance, and the LOGIN language of Ait-Kaci and Nasr (1986) which embeds inheritance into unification using typed logic.
