Physical and Human Capital Complementarity and Worker Effort Level by Nutritional Level within Labor Augmenting Solow Type Model

2010-01-01
Whether the convergence occurs is one of the important issues in economic growth. Besides occurrence of convergence, another important issue in the theory of economic growth is whether the growth of per-capita income depends on the ratio of physical to human capital (K/H) where human capital is defined by the education and the worker effort level calculated by per capita dietary energy supply (DES). This study provides evidence for imbalance effects of (K/H) on growth rate besides convergence issue in a sample of 36 countries. This dependence causes the change in size of convergence rate where with the conditions on (K/H) ratio, convergence rate increases.

One of important issue in economic growth is whether the convergence occurs. Besides occurrence of convergence, another important problem in the theory of economic growth is whether the growth of output per capita depends on the ratio of physical to human capital (K/H). This paper provides evidence for imbalance effects of (K/H) on growth rate besides convergence issue in a sample of 36 countries. This dependence tends to change in size of convergence rate where with the conditions on (K/H) ratio, convergen...
Economic liberalism and performance of developing countries: a comparative analysis
Altun, Gizem; Şenses, Fikret; Department of Economics (2009)
Economic liberalism has always been a very controversial issue in the content of development economics. In addition to that purpose, this thesis aims to analyze whether the experien...
The causal relationship between energy consumption and economic growth
Çevirgen, Banu; Erdil, Erkan; Department of Economics (2008)
The causal relationship between energy consumption and economic growth has been a controversial subject of the empirical literature. However, there is no common consensus neither on the existence nor on the direction of the causal relationship between energy consumption and economic growth. The purpose of this study is to investigate the causal relationship between energy consumption and economic growth using a consistent data set. Recently developed Granger causality tests in panel data models are used to ...
Sociospatial Segregation and Consumption Profıle of Ankara in the Context of Globalization
Akpınar, Figen (Middle East Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, 2009)
The ‘’Global City Hypothesis’’ argues that the economic restructuring of the new global economy produces highly uneven and polarized employment structure in urban society (1). The significant increase in foreign investment and the arrival of the multi-national corporations along with the major accounting, advertising, and marketing firms and the fashion, design and entertainment industry caused changes both in spatial and d...
The Role of Knowledge on Economic Growth: The Case of Turkey, 1963-2010
Utku İsmihan, Fatma M. (Science And Technology Policies Research Center, Middle East Technical University (Ankara, Turkey), 2012)
The importance of knowledge for long-run economic growth has long been an important research area for economists and policy makers. This paper attempts to analyze the impact of knowledge on economic growth in Turkey over the 1963-2010 period, by using a production function approach. In contrast to early studies, which have analyzed the impact of a single dimension of knowledge on economic growth, a knowledge index is constructed to see the impact of various dimensions of knowledge with a single and comprehe...
