Çalışmada ana akım haber medyasındaki temsil düzeyinin yetersizliği neticesinde alternatif bir mecra arayışına giren Milliyetçi Hareket Partisi’nin (MHP) yeni medya ile olan deneyimi ele alınmaktadır. Bu kapsamda, Web 2.0’ın demokratik katılım kaynaklı yurttaşlık kültürünün gelişmesine katkıda bulunduğu varsayımından hareketle, sosyal medya ortamlarından Twitter’ın MHP temsilcileri tarafından 2011 Genel Seçimleri’ndeki kullanım pratiği incelenmektedir. İki analiz düzeyinde nicel ve nitel çözümlemenin uygulandığı çalışmanın ilk aşamasında, örnekleme alınan MHP Twitter hesaplarının kullanımı üzerine genel bulgular aktarılmaktadır. Sonraki aşamada makro ve mikro düzeyde ‘içerik çözümlemesine tabi tutulan hesaplar, sunulan örnekler üzerinden değerlendirilmektedir.

Karakuş, Ece; Erdoğan, Necmi; Department of Media and Cultural Studies (2014)
This study offers an analysis of the representation of the enemies for nationalist conservative discourse, which has an ongoing influence on the present day Turkish right-wing politics. It aims to illuminate how and why the communists, Jews, Donmehs and Free Masons are articulated as the enemies vis-a-vis the Turkish nation in the discourse of nationalist conservative intellectuals, including Necip Fazıl Kısakürek, Osman Yüksel Serdengeçti and Eşref Edib Fergan. To this aim, the periodicals of Büyük Doğu, S...
The Fusion of individual and group levels: the case of political party supporters within extreme pro-group action process
Özdemir, Fatih; Özkan, Türker; Department of Psychology (2018)
The current research aimed to rationalize the relations of opposition political parties' supporters with local in-group (supporters of the supported political party), extended in-group (T.C citizens) and three local out-groups (supporters of ruling party and other two opposition parties) in both individual and group levels using identity and deprivation theories, and answer the question of why people indicate extreme self-sacrificing behaviors for the sake of in-group members. To be more precise, this study...
A critical evaluation of the Socialist Journal "Aydınlık" within a Marxian Theoretical Framework
Gündoğan, Ercan; Okyayuz, Mehmet; Department of Political Science and Public Administration (2005)
The thesis concerns with the conception of class and revolution in Marxian meta-theory and examines its reception by the Turkish Marxist left through an analysis of the Socialist Journal Aydınlık (1968-1971). Survey demonstrates that the reception is obscured by strategic debates, and is also not perfectly realized due to the needs of the rapid development of the Turkish socialist left after 1960s. Marxian theory is used mainly to justify the national democratic revolutionary strategy which is presented as ...
Nationalism and the ‘inter-national’: a critical survey of internalist thinking within theories of nationalism
Özeniş, Çağdaş; Yalvaç, Faruk; Department of International Relations (2015)
This thesis aims to critically survey the role of the “international” in theories of nationalism. It will be argued that even though a great majority of theories of nationalism have emphasized the causality between international factors and social dynamics, these two domains still remain as analytically distinct categories within their theoretical frameworks. This in turn serves the reproduction of the internalist thinking which prevails within social sciences, through the dichotomization of internal (socio...
Turkey and its relation to the European Union from a radical nationalist perspective: the Nationalist Action Party from the early 1990’s until the present
Korkusuz, Şermin; Özdalga, Elisabeth; Department of Sociology (2008)
The objective of this study is to analyse the discourse (from 1990s onwards) of the radical nationalist perspective about Turkey-EU relations. The EU is discussed as an actor within the globalization process. Therefore, in a broader context, the study presents the situation of the radical nationalist perspective in Turkey within the globalization process. In the study, the Milliyetçi Hareket Partisi/MHP (Nationalist Action Party) has been selected as the political representative of radical nationalism in Tu...
