Design assessment of a 150 kWt CFBC Test Unit
Batu, A.; Selçuk, Nevin; Külah, Görkem (2010-04-01)
For clean and efficient energy generation from coal, the most suitable technology known to date is 'Fluidized Bed Combustion' technology. Applications of circulating fluidized bed (CFB) combustion technology have been steadily increasing in both capacity and number over the past decade. Designs of these units have been based on the combustion tests carried out in pilot scale facilities to determine the combustion and desulfurization characteristics of coal and limestone reserves in CFB conditions. Similarly...
Design optimization of whiffletree systems for wind turbine blade testing
Yeniceli, Süleyman Cem; Kayran, Altan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2014)
In this thesis, the design optimization of a whiffletree system, which is used to simulate the loads for a selected design load case by applying discrete test loads on a wind turbine blade, is performed. Firstly, distributed design loads are calculated for the selected load case by using Microsoft (MS) EXCEL. Then, the test load optimization is performed with the Solver Add-In of the MS EXCEL to find the optimum locations of the load saddles which give the best moment distribution along the blade span accor...
Design optimization of a mixed-flow compressor impeller for a small turbojet engine
Cevik, Mert; Uzol, Oğuz (2011-01-01)
Purpose - This paper aims to present the results of a design optimization study for the impeller of a small mixed-flow compressor. The objective of the optimization is to obtain an impeller geometry that could minimize a cost function based on the specific thrust and the thrust specific fuel consumption of a small turbojet engine.
Design considerations and performance evaluation of a surge tank for diaphragm pump operation
Özdemir, Şahika; Albayrak, Kahraman; Kayılı, Serkan; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2010)
This thesis is performed to evaluate the design consideration and performance characteristics of a surge tank for a diaphragm pump operation and to evaluate the proper volume and inlet area of surge tank in order to reduce the pulsations of the discharge pressure. An experimental set up is constructed for a three diaphragm positive displacement pump and the experiments are conducted afterwards. The surge tanks having different volumes and the surge tank inlet area configurations are tested in order to achie...
Design Analysis and Experimental Modal Testing of a Mission Adaptive Wing of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle
Şahin, Melin; Ünlüsoy, Levent; Erdoğan Tolga, İnsuyu; Güçlü, Seber; Özgen, Serkan; Yaman, Yavuz (2010-06-10)
The mission adaptive wings aim to overcome the inefficient behaviour of the classical fixed wings, especially for the off-design conditions, by changing their geometry actively to adopt to changing flight conditions for maximized performance. This study presents the structural design, analysis and experimental modal testing of an unmanned aerial vehicle wing having mission adaptive characteristics.
