Sturm comparison theory for impulsive differential equations
Özbekler, Abdullah; Ağacık, Zafer; Department of Mathematics (2005)
In this thesis, we investigate Sturmian comparison theory and oscillation for second order impulsive differential equations with fixed moments of impulse actions. It is shown that impulse actions may greatly alter the oscillation behavior of solutions. In chapter two, besides Sturmian type comparison results, we give Leightonian type comparison theorems and obtain Wirtinger type inequalities for linear, half-linear and non-selfadjoint equations. We present analogous results for forced super linear and super...
Schulz-Snyder Phase Retrieval Algorithm as an Alternating Minimization Algorithm
Öktem, Sevinç Figen (null; 2011-07-10)
We derive the Schulz-Snyder phase retrieval algorithm as an alternating minimization method, and discuss its advantages and drawbacks. An annealing-type Schulz-Snyder algorithm is proposed to avoid convergence to nonglobal solutions. Numerical experiments which suggest the effectiveness of the proposed method are presented.
Kummer extensions of function fields with many rational places
Gülmez Temur, Burcu; Özbudak, Ferruh; Department of Mathematics (2005)
In this thesis, we give two simple and effective methods for constructing Kummer extensions of algebraic function fields over finite fields with many rational places. Some explicit examples are obtained after a practical search. We also study fibre products of Kummer extensions over a finite field and determine the exact number of rational places. We obtain explicit examples with many rational places by a practical search. We have a record (i.e the lower bound is improved) and a new entry for the table of v...

Kalman-filter-based observer design around optimal control policy for gas pipelines
Durgut, I; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal (1997-01-30)
Seeking the optimal operating policy by an off-line controller for pipelines carrying natural gas has an inherent state estimation problem associated with deviations from demand forecast. This paper presents a Kalman-filter-based observer for the real-time estimation of deviations from the states previously obtained by an off-line controller optimally, around an expected demand function. The observer is based on the linearized form of the non-linear partial differential equations which are the state space r...
