Experimental and numerical analysis of effect of curing time on mechanical properties of thin spray-on liners
Güner, Doğukan; Öztürk, Hasan; Department of Mining Engineering (2014)
This research study investigates the effect of curing time on elastic material properties (Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio) and tensile, compressive strength of thin spray on liners (TSL). TSLs are fast curing, comparatively thin (3-5mm) and widely used rock support system in mining and civil engineering excavations. They have advantages of low volume, rapid application and low operating cost. The major ingredients of current TSLs are divided as polyurethane/ polyurea or Portland cement based latex product...
Experimental and numerical investigation of the fretting fatigue of dissimilar mating surfaces
Korkmaz, Yezdan Medet; Çöker, Demirkan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2019)
Fretting fatigue experiments and simulations were performed for dissimilar mating materials. In the first part of the study, experiments were conducted using different pad materials to clarify the effect of fretting fatigue on the dissimilar mating materials in terms of friction force, contact surfaces, and fatigue life of the substrate material. Steel and Aluminum pad materials were used in experiments. According to results, fretting fatigue life of the substrate material was dependent on the pad material....
Experimental and Numerical Analysis of the Effects of Curing Time on Tensile Mechanical Properties of Thin Spray-on Liners
Guner, Doğukan; Öztürk, Hasan (2016-08-01)
The effects of curing time on tensile elastic material properties of thin spray-on liners (TSLs) were investigated in this study. Two different TSL products supplied by two manufacturers were tested comparatively. The "dogbone" tensile test samples that were prepared in laboratory conditions with different curing times (1, 7, 14, 21, and 28 days) were tested based on ASTM standards. It was concluded that longer curing times improves the tensile strength and the Young's Modulus of the TSLs but decreases thei...
EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECT OF A VEGETATION ARRAY TO THE FLOW RESISTANCE AND CHARACTERISTICS
Haspolat, Emre; Köken, Mete; Department of Civil Engineering (2022-12-20)
Vegetation canopies play a crucial role in aquatic living and ecology which makes them an essential part of rivers and waterways. In the present study, flow resistance due to submerged and emergent vegetation arrays having various densities was investigated experimentally and numerically under different hydraulic scenarios. A novel experimental setup having a drag plate was developed to measure drag forces acting on emergent and submerged vegetation arrays imitated by a group of rigid smooth cylinders in a ...
