Real exchange rates and real interest rate differentials : an empirical investigation
Can Mutan, Oya; Özmen, Erdal; Department of Economics (2005)
This study investigates the validity of the real exchange rate-real interest rate differential (RERI) relationship for a sample of twenty-three developing and developed countries. The results based on the Johansen cointegration analysis suggest the validity of the long-run RERI relationship only for a small number of countries including Canada, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Chile, Israel and Norway. Real interest rate differentials are found to be positively associated with real exchange rates in the long-ru...
Real wages, profit margins and inflation in Turkish manufacturing under post-liberalization
Günay, Aslı; Metin-Ozcan, K; Yeldan, E (Informa UK Limited, 2005-09-10)
This article reports investigations into the behaviour of gross profit margins (mark-ups) in Turkish manufacturing industries for the post-1980 liberalization period in relation to price inflation, trade liberalization (openness) and real wage costs. Panel data econometrics over 29 subsectors of Turkish manufacturing are used over the period 1980-1996. Results suggest that profit margins are positively and significantly related both to price inflation and real wage costs. However, openness is found to have ...
Smart grid applications and technologies in distribution systems
Pehlivanoğlu Gürbüz, Kübra; Sevaioğlu, Osman; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2019)
Smart grid control purposes to rise the percentage of energy production through alternative energy sources like renewable resources and to make consumers to be comprehended in grid actively, is realising importance day by day. Further to that it can help us employment opportunities and improving growth in addition to keep the power on at minimum cost to prosumers, while the participation is elucidated and enabled new products, service and markets, accommodating all generation and storage options and provide...
TIMELY COMMUNICATION FOR ENERGY-EFFICIENCY, DATA FRESHNESS AND TRACKING
Bacınoğlu, Baran Tan; Uysal, Elif; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2021-9-1)
This thesis considers data transmission scenarios where timeliness of information transmission, or adapting to intermittently available resources is important. The first part of the thesis focuses on energy harvesting communication systems. For such systems, energy efficient scheduling algorithms that achieve certain throughput maximization and data freshness objectives are developed. The second part of the thesis considers data transmission for the purpose of tracking unstable sources through noisy channels. ...
Smart Cities as Drivers of a Green Economy
Balaban, Osman ( Elsevier: Academic Press, 2019-09-01)
The current economic system is highly unsustainable. It has created an economic crisis and an ecological crisis, which seriously threaten the future of our planet and societies. Both crises could be overcome by transitioning to a green economy. The green economy concept is based on the idea that the conventional model of economic development is socially and environmentally unsustainable, and argues that we should move toward a new economy, which respects natural boundaries and ecological limits, and respond...
