Development of a GIS-based monitoring and management system for underground coal mining safety
Şalap, Seda; KARSLIOĞLU, MAHMUT ONUR; Demirel, Nuray (Elsevier BV, 2009-11-01)
Coal mine safety is of paramount concern to mining industry. Mine accidents have various causes and consequences including catastrophic failure of mine, substantial economic losses and most notably loss of lives. Therefore, any initiative in mine monitoring is of vital importance for progressing safety surveillance and maintenance.
Development of a gis-based monitoring and management system for underground mining safety
Şalap, Seda; Karslıoğlu, Mahmut Onur; Department of Geodetic and Geographical Information Technologies (2008)
Mine safety is of paramount concern to the mining industry. The generation of a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) which can administrate relevant spatial data and metadata of underground mining safety efficiently is a very vital issue in this sense. In an effort to achieve a balance of safety and productivity, GIS can contribute to the creation of a safe working environment in underground (U/G) mining. Such a system should serve to a continuous risk analysis and be designed for applications in case of em...
Development of structural health monitoring and artificial intelligence based damage detection and early warning system for truss like in-water structures
Kara, Serap; Türer, Ahmet; Department of Civil Engineering (2019)
Continuously growing industry necessitates substantial amount of energy which is frequently harvested in-water regions. Electricity, gas, and oil collected offshore areas generally require platforms constructed in seas and oceans. Inspection of offshore platforms is hard and it is difficult to detect damage in early stages of these structures that perform in harsh salty water environments, which might cause catastrophic failures if unattended. Damage identification of these structures is a challenging issue...
Development of a computer-based risk assessment tool for underground coal mines
Başayar Büyükkara, Fatma Nur; Karpuz, Celal; Department of Mining Engineering (2016)
Underground coal mining remains one of the world’s most hazardous occupations. There are numerous hazards in a mine, such as gas, dust, noise, temperature, and high humidity. Besides, increasing number of occupational accidents in underground coal mines shows the importance of occupational health and safety in these workplaces. By means of Occupational Health and Safety Law No 6331, attention to health and safety in the workplace has grown in recent years in Turkey. In addition, conducting an occupational h...
Development of a road map and emergency help and detection system for disaster search and rescue operations
Yoncacı, İlker; Çakır, Serhat; Department of Science and Technology Policy Studies (2020)
Despite humanity is advanced so much in information and technology, it is still not able to interfere or change natural disasters like earthquakes, volcanic explosions and droughts. Along with natural disasters, caused by immersive improvements made in information technologies, technological disasters are also become a big problem in our societies today. New researches need to be made in order to minimize or completely eliminate the effects of these human-based disasters. There is a common understanding tha...
