Bootstrap Unit Root Tests for Nonlinear Threshold Models
Becker, Ralf; Osborn, Denise R.; Yıldırım Kasap, Dilem (2008-09-01)
While a number of unit root testing procedures have been developed to account for nonlinearity under the alternative hypothesis of stationarity, almost all available tests assume a linear DGP under the unit root null hypothesis. This paper establishes some theoretical results relating to the inclusion of nonlinear terms in an ADF regression and proposes two new unit root tests that allow the process to be nonlinear under the null hypothesis. More specifically, block and model-based bootstrap procedur...
Bootstrap Unit Root Tests for Nonlinear Threshold Models
Yıldırım Kasap, Dilem; Becker, Ralf; Osborn, Denise R. (2010-05-17)
This paper empirically analyses the interest rate transmission mechanism in the United Kingdom by exploring first the pass-through of the official rate to the money market rate and then that of the market rate to the mortgage rate. The focus is on the possibility of asymmetric adjustment in the pass-through process arising from financial market conditions and monetary policies. Empirical results indicate substantial asymmetries in both steps of the process on the basis of a nonlinear threshold error-...

Bootstrapping and the problem of testing quantitative theoretical hypotheses
Grünberg, David (1998-08-16)
Two alternative solutions to the problem of computing the values of theoretical quantities and of testing theoretical hypotheses are Sneed's structuralist eliminationism and Glymour's bootstrapping, Sneed attempts to solve the problem by eliminating theoretical quantities by means of the so-called Ramsey-Sneed sentence that represents the global empirical claim of the given theory. Glymour proposes to solve the problem by deducing the values of the theoretical quantities from the hypothesis to be tested. In...
