Free surface wave interaction with an oscillating cylinder
Bozkaya, Canan (2014-01-01)
The numerical solution of the special integral form of two-dimensional continuity and unsteady Navier Stokes equations is used to investigate vortex states of a horizontal cylinder undergoing forced oscillations in free surface water wave. This study aims to examine the consequence of degree of submergence of the cylinder beneath free surface at Froude number 0.4. Calculations are carried out for a single set of oscillation parameters at a Reynolds number of R = 200. Two new locked-on states of vortex forma...
Free-Vibration Analysis of Ring-Stiffened Branched Composite Shells of Revolution
Kayran, Altan (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), 2010-4)
Application of the multisegment numerical integration technique is extended to the free-vibration analysis of macroscopically anisotropic filament-wound branched shells of revolution with ring stiffeners, considering the variation of the thickness and winding angle. The solution procedure is based on a modified-frequency trial method, which processes on the numerically integrated transformed fundamental shell equations that are obtained in terms of finite exponential Fourier transform of the fundamental she...
Closed timelike curves and geodesics of gödel-type metrics
Sarıoğlu, Bahtiyar Özgür (2008-12-01)
It is shown that the spacetimes described by Gödel-type metrics with both flat and non-flat backgrounds and with constant uk always have CTCs or CNCs. The geodesic curves of these spacetimes are characterized by a lower dimensional Lorentz force equation for a charged point particle in the relevant Riemannian background. An explicit example is given for which timelike and null geodesics can never be closed. © 2008 World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.
Closed timelike curves and geodesics of Godel-type metrics
Gleiser, RJ; Gurses, M; Karasu, Atalay; Sarıoğlu, Bahtiyar Özgür (IOP Publishing, 2006-04-07)
it is shown explicitly that when the characteristic vector field that defines a Godel-type metric is also a Killing vector, there always exist closed timelike or null curves in spacetimes described by such a metric. For these geometries, the geodesic curves are also shown to be characterized by a lower-dimensional Lorentz force equation for a charged point particle in the relevant Riemannian background. Moreover, two explicit examples are given for which timelike and null geodesics can never be closed.
Bounded operators and complemented subspaces of Cartesian products
DJAKOV, PLAMEN; TERZİOĞLU, AHMET TOSUN; Yurdakul, Murat Hayrettin; Zahariuta, V. (2011-02-01)
We study the structure of complemented subspaces in Cartesian products X x Y of Kothe spaces X and Y under the assumption that every linear continuous operator from X to Y is bounded. In particular, it is proved that each non-Montel complemented subspace with absolute basis E subset of X x Y is isomorphic to a space of the form E(1) x E(2), where E(1) is a complemented subspace of X and E(2) is a complemented subspace of Y.
