OSL from BeO ceramics: New observations from an old material
Bulur, Enver (1998-01-01)
In BeO ceramics, exposed to ionizing radiation, an intense OSL signal was observed. The properties of the signal and its behavior under various experimental conditions were investigated. It was found that the OSL signal is a composite signal and exhibits strong thermal quenching. The quenching energy was estimated as similar to 0.5 eV. The excitation spectrum of the OSL signal was obtained as a broad peak in the region 420-550 nm with maximum around 435 nm. The possible correlation between the OSL signal an...

Beryllium Oxide (BeO) ceramic has been widely used for numerous applications in different fields of technology such as nuclear and technological research. Special interest in BeO as a material for personal dosimetry is because of its effective atomic number (Zeff =7.13), which is close to biological tissue (Zeff =7.42). In this study, BeO nanophosphors were synthesized for dosimetric purposes, and doped with aluminum and calcium using sol-gel method. BeO:Al,Ca pellets were prepared from pressed and sintered...
