Infrared-assisted microwave drying in the production of bread crumbs
Tireki, Suzan; Şümnü, Servet Gülüm; Department of Food Engineering (2005)
This study is aimed to investigate the possibility of using halogen lamp-microwave combination oven for production of bread crumbs and to determine the drying conditions in this oven to produce bread crumbs with the highest quality. Bread crumb dough was dried from about 40.9% to 8% moisture content by conventional oven, microwave, infrared and infrared-assisted microwave drying. In the experiments 30%, 50% and 70% halogen lamp and/or microwave powers were used. As a control, conventional oven drying at 75°...
INFRARED ZONE-MELTING PROCESS FOR YBA2CU3O7-DELTA WIRES
Özkan, Necati; ROBINSON, EA; FREEMAN, PA (1991-09-01)
A novel process for the continuous densification of YBa2Cu3O7-delta wires by infrared zone melting is presented. Superconducting ceramic wires with moderate porosity (20-40%) were passed through a high temperature infrared zone at a speed of 1-2 cm/min, which resulted in zone melting followed by fast solidification to give near zero porosity wires. The atmospheric conditions during zone melting had a significant effect upon the resultant properties and microstructure of the wires. The best results were o...

Infrared measurement of biomass combustion in a wire mesh reactor
Uluca, Kıvanç; Kazanç Özerinç, Feyza; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2019)
As a consequence of increasing emissions due to the global energy production, new clean combustion options which utilize biomass are being sought. Prior to using biomass in an industrial boiler, the combustion characteristics of the fuel have to be assessed so that the boiler and furnace can be designed or retrofitted. In this study, olive residue (OR), endogenous agricultural residue of Turkey was investigated using a wire mesh reactor (WMR) coupled with two infrared cameras. These cameras recorded radiome...
