Assessment of the seismic effect on retaining walls supporting dry cohesions backfill by finite element method
Solak, Tulin; Özkan, M. Yener; Department of Civil Engineering (1996)
Assessment of occupational noise exposure of a plant in oil industry
Dal, Ufuk; Birlik, Gülin; Department of Engineering Sciences (2010)
Noise, which is a noteworthy problem in the world of workers, influences the health, safety, productivity and efficiency of those working in heavy industries and especially those working in petroleum industry. The objective of this study is to reassess the protective measures, taken previously by the company, from the point of view of the negative effects of noise on the workers. For this purpose, two approaches are adopted. Firstly, through questionnaires (response rate: 86%) distributed to workers, their ...
Assessment of rock slope stability by slope mass rating (SMR): A case study for the gas flare site in Assalouyeh, South of Iran
AZARAFZA, Mohammad; Akgün, Haluk; ASGHARI-KALJAHI, Ebrahim (2017-10-01)
Slope mass rating (SMR) is commonly used for the geomechanical classification of rock masses in an attempt to evaluate the stability of slopes. SMR is calculated from the RMR89-basic (basic rock mass rating) and from the characteristic features of discontinuities, and may be applied to slope stability analysis as well as to slope support recommendations.
Assessment of fuel quality parameters of sewage sludge samples from different treatment schemes
Atak, Onur; Atimtay, Aysel; Sanin, Faika Dilek (2018-05-01)
The fuel quality of dried sewage sludge samples was investigated to assess their potential use as auxiliary fuel in combustion processes. Dewatered sewage sludge samples were taken from six wastewater treatment plants in Turkey using different wastewater and sludge treatment processes. The fuel quality of the dried sludge was examined from the calorific point of view. The effects of wastewater and sludge treatment processes on calorific value, carbon and volatile matter content were determined. Dried sewage...
Assessment of discrete ordinates method for radiative transfer in cylindrical furnaces
Selçuk, Nevin (1997-07-01)
The solution accuracy of S-n or Discrete Ordinates Method (DOM) was assessed by comparing its predictions with exact solutions reported earlier on a cylindrical enclosure problem with steep temperature gradients. The enclosure has interior black walls and an absorbing-emitting medium of constant properties. Predictive accuracy was investigated for two angular quadrature schemes: 1) the S-n discrete ordinates approximation (S-2 and S-4) and 2) the modified piecewise constant angular (PCA) approximation. Comp...
