An Empirical Investigation Of Payment Performance For Consumer Loans In Turkey
Özdemir, Özlem (Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi (Ankara, Turkey), 2008-12)
This paper explores the relationship between consumer credit clients’ payment performance and some demographic and financial variables. Data to examine this relationship is obtained from the customer records of a private bank in Turkey. A logistic binary regression is used to evaluate the data. Financial variables rather than the demographic characteristics of clients have significant influence on customers’ pay back performance. Thus, the longer the maturity time and the higher the interest rate, the highe...
An Empirical Analysis of the Risk-Taking Channel of Monetary Policy in Turkey
Ozsuca, Ekin Ayse; Akbostancı Özkazanç, Elif (2016-03-01)
This article investigates the bank-specific characteristics of risk-taking behavior of the Turkish banking sector as well as the existence of risk-taking channel of monetary policy in Turkey. Using bank-level quarterly data over the period 2002-2012 a dynamic panel model is estimated. We find evidence that low short-term interest rates reduce the risk of outstanding loans; however short-term interest rates below a theoretical benchmark increase risk-taking of banks. This result holds for macroeconomic contr...
An empirical study on early warning systems for banking sector
Boyraz, Mustafa Fatih; Gaygısız Lajunen, Esma; Department of Economics (2012)
Early Warning Systems (EWSs) for banking sectors are used to measure occurrence risks of banking crises, generally observed with a rundown of bank deposits and widespread failures of financial institutions. Taking into account this fact the present study focuses...

Altınel, Fatih; Gaygısız Lajunen, Esma; Department of Economics (2012)
Banking sector is very sensitive to macroeconomic and political instabilities and they are prone to crises. Since banks are integrated with almost all of the economic agents and with other banks, these crises affect entire societies. Therefore, classification or rating of banks with respect to their credibility becomes important. In this study we examine different models for classification of banks. Choosing one of those models, fuzzy c-means clustering, banks are grouped into clusters using 48 different ra...
