Optimum design of high-speed flexible robotic arms with dynamic behavior constraints
Oral, Süha (1997-10-01)
A methodology is presented for the optimum design of robotic arms under time-dependent stress and displacement constraints by using mathematical programming. Finite elements are used in the modeling of the flexible links. The design variables are the cross-sectional dimensions of the elements. The time dependence of the constraints is removed through the use of equivalent constraints based on the most critical constraints. It is shown that this approach yields a better design than using equivalent constrain...

An analysis of the minorities issue in Turkey-European Union relations
Ongur, Hakan Övünç; Kahraman, Sevilay; Department of European Studies (2006)
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the minorities issue within the Turkey-European Union relations. In the study, international, European and Turkish perspectives in minority understanding will be explored, respectively. The main argument will read: “Minorities issue is a highly politicized matter upon which neither legal nor academic standards are reached commonly in international, European or Turkish perspectives; thus, it must not constitute one of the focal points in Turkey-EU relations”. The analyses...
Ethics for industrial design : an ethico-political critique of sustaninability in industrial design
Şişman, Osman; Kurtgözü, Aren Emre; Department of Industrial Design (2005)
This thesis analyses the concept of sustainability as applied and reflected in industrial design practice in a theoretical way. The discourses on sustainability in general are explored in terms of ecology, economics and politics. The underlying motives resulting in unsustainable ways of production and consumption practices are attempted to be located in contemporary society.
Middle school students’ quantitative reasoning in pictorial, symbolic and iconographic problems
Uyguç, Ayşenur; Sevinç, Şerife; Department of Mathematics Education (2023-1)
The aim of this study was to examine middle school students’ (5th–8th grade) quantitative reasoning in early algebra problems given in pictorial, symbolic, and iconographic forms and involved single-unit and multiple-unit substitutions. The study was carried out with a total of 60 students studying in two public middle schools in the town of Şarkışla, Sivas, in October of the 2021-2022 academic year. Participants were determined by the purposeful and convenience sampling method. In this study, a multiple ca...
