Botulism is characterized by flaccid paralysis, which can be caused by intoxication with any of the seven known serotypes of botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT), all of which disrupt synaptic transmission by endoproteolytic cleavage of SNARE proteins. BoNT serotype A (BoNT/A) has the most prolonged or persistent effects, which can last several months, and exerts its effects by specifically cleaving and inactivating SNAP25. A major factor contributing to the persistence of intoxication is the long half-life of the c...
Dehydration of Industrial Byproduct Solutions for Recycling via Pervaporation-Adsorption Hybrid Process
Büküşoğlu, Emre; Kalıpçılar, Halil; Yılmaz, Levent (2018-02-14)
Dehydration of used solvents in the printing and packaging industry is required in order to reuse or increase the commercial value of the solvents. In this study, a pervaporation-liquid-phase adsorption hybrid process for dehydration of a low-value byproduct solution obtained from a real operation was examined. The byproduct solution contained water varying in the range of 1-11.5 wt %, and the majority of the rest is ethanol and isopropanol with minor components such as ethyl acetate and methoxy propanol. W...
Depletion Engineered Heteroj unction p plus -n HgCdTe Infrared Photodetector Structures
Livanelioglu, Can; Ozer, Yigit; Kocaman, Serdar (2018-10-04)
Dark current suppression via depletion region engineering is performed to eliminate Shockley-Read-Hall, Radiative and Trap-Assisted-Tunnelling dark currents in various atmospheric transmission windows. Effectiveness of the suppression technique is compared for all types of detectors revealing the dominant mechanisms and the performance limitations.
Deunionization and pay inequality in OECD Countries: A panel Granger causality approach
Tongur, Unal; Elveren, Adem Yavuz (Elsevier BV, 2014-02-01)
The impact of unionization on wage inequality has been examined by a vast literature. Focusing mostly on the US and the UK in time series analyses or on OECD countries in panel data analyses, a bulk of these studies have found a negative impact of deunionization (i.e. decline in the union density rate) on distribution of wages. By utilizing two inequality data sets both provided by the University of Texas Inequality Project and the union density data set provided by OECD this paper contributes to the litera...
