Energy Optimization of a Plug in Electric Vehicle Along aFixed PathGiven an origin-destination pair and a fixed path between them, we consider theproblem of determining the speed of a plug-in electric vehicle on each roadsegment along the path, the charging stations the vehicle will stop by, and howmuch to recharge at each stop so as to minimize the total amount energyconsumption of the vehicle. We assume that there is a speedlimit on each road segment which cannot be violated by the vehicle. Moreover, it is assumed thatthe vehicle has to arrive at the destination on or before a given time-limit. Wepropose a mixed-integer second order cone programming formulation for theproblem and evaluate its performance. Effects of some valid inequalities are alsoinvestigated.

Finding an energy efficient path for a plug - in electric vehicle via speed optimization
Erdoğan, Bilgenur; Tural, Mustafa Kemal; Department of Industrial Engineering (2021-2-24)
Given an origin-destination pair over a directed network, the problem of determining a path joining origin and destination, the speed of a plug-in electric vehicle on each road segment, i.e., arc, along the path, the charging stations the vehicle will stop by, and how much to recharge at each stop so as to minimize the total amount energy consumption of the vehicle is considered. There are speed limits on each road segment, and the vehicle has to arrive at the destination on or before a given time-limit. Fo...
Energy optimal path planning of an unmanned solar powered aircraft
Pınar, Erdem Emre; Baker, Derek Keıth; Uzgören, Eray; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2013)
In this thesis, energy optimal route of an unmanned solar powered air vehicle is obtained for the given mission constraints in order to sustain the maximum energy balance. The mission scenario and the constraints of the solar powered UAV are defined. Equations of motion are obtained for the UAV with respect to the chosen structural properties and aerodynamic parameters to achieve the given mission. Energy income and loss equations that state the energy balance, up to the position of the UAV inside the atmos...
Efficiency Optimization of a Direct Torque Controlled Induction Motor used in Hybrid Electric Vehicles
Sergaki, Eleftheria S.; Moustaizis, Stavros D. (2011-09-10)
The main contribution of this paper is the application of Loss Minimization control algorithm of a three-phase squirrel-cage induction motor which is used in parallel with an internal combustion engine (ICE), in hybrid electric vehicles (HEY). During steady state operation of the electric motor, the electric motor's optimal motor flux profile minimizes the electric motor losses and maximizes the overall HEN efficiency, hybridization factor (HF). During steady state operation of the direct torque controlled ...
DC-link capacitor sizing of three-level neutral point clamped voltage source inverters for variable speed drives
Ogan, Serhat Emir; Bostancı, Emine; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2021-12-13)
A three-level neutral point clamped (NPC) voltage source inverter (VSI) topology can be advantageous in electric vehicles with a high DC-link voltage and a high switching frequency due to the flexibility in power switch selection. However, the potential oscillations in neutral point must be handled to guarantee an efficient operation of this topology. A bulky DC-link capacitor is not an option for EV applications; thus, the sizing of the DC-link capacitor considering the traction system characteristics is a...
Parameter Estimation of Electric Vehicles for Improved Range Prediction
Saglam, Berkay; Bostancı, Emine; Göl, Murat (2021-01-01)
© 2021 IEEE.In order to improve performance of range estimation of electric vehicles, parameters that affect energy consumption should be determined accurately. This paper presents a parameter estimation methodology for electric vehicles based on least squares method. In this study, the power and angular velocity of wheels are measured from the vehicle directly. In addition to those, the directional velocity data is extracted from the GPS signal, in order to avoid the parameter dependency between the angula...
