Geological Considerations for the Economic Evaluation of Turkish Oil Shale Deposits and Their Combustion-Pyrolysis Behavior
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (Informa UK Limited, 2010-01-01)
The oil shale deposits in Turkey are widely distributed in middle and western Anatolia. Turkish oil shales are of Palaeocene-Eocene and middle upper Miocene age. Current reserves of oil shales are approximately 2,220 million tons (total reserve) and mainly are located in Himmetoglu, Seyitomer, Beypazari, and Hatildag deposits. Some petrological, geochemical, Fisher Assay, and fluidized combustion tests are performed for these oil shale fields, and it was concluded that Himmetoglu oil shale is the most appro...
Sedimentary records of past earthquakes in Boraboy Lake during the last ca 600 years (North Anatolian Fault, Turkey)
Avşar, Ulaş; De Batıst, Marc; Schmidt, Sabine; Fagel, Nathalie (2015-09-01)
Multiproxy sedimentological analyses along 4.9 m-long sequence of Boraboy Lake, which is located on the central eastern part of the North Anatolian Fault (NAF), reveal the sedimentary traces of past large earthquakes in the region. The lake has a relatively large catchment area (10 km(2)) compared to its size (0.12 km(2)), which renders sedimentation sensitive to heavy rain/storm events. Accordingly, the background sedimentation, which is composed of faintly laminated reddish/yellowish brown clayey silt, is...
Son 1500 Yıl Boyunca Ege Denizi’ndeki Tsunamilerin Sedimanter İzleri, (Karine Lagünü, B-Türkiye)
Avşar, Ulaş (2019-08-01)
As high energy tsunami waves reach shallow near-shore environments, the height of the waves increases and sea water propagates towards the land. During this movement, significant amounts of sediment are transported inland from the nearshore, foreshore and beach. While a lagoon that is separated from the sea by a low, thin sand barrier has a relatively calm depositional environment under normal conditions, during a tsunami the sea water climbs over the sand barrier and deposits material from the nearshore, f...
