Planar array structures for two-dimensional direction-of-arrival estimation
Filik, Tansu; Tuncer, Temel Engin; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2010)
In this thesis, two-dimensional (2-D) direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation problem is considered. Usually, DOA estimation is considered in one dimension assuming a fixed elevation angle. While this assumption simplifies the problem, both the azimuth and elevation angles, namely, the 2-D DOA estimates are required in practical scenarios. In this thesis, planar array structures are considered for 2-D DOA estimation. In this context, V-shaped arrays are discussed and some of the important features of these ar...
Numerical analysis of ablation process on a two dimensional external surface
Aykan, Fatma Serap; Dursunkaya, Zafer; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2005)
The thermal response analysis of an ablative material on a two dimensional external surface is performed. The method is applied to both rectangular and cylindrical coordinate systems, where rectangular coordinate system is used for comparison with results available in literature. The current study solves the decomposition of the material at high temperatures by using the nth order Arrhenius equation but excludes the removal of char from the surface due to mechanical erosion or phase change and considers tha...
Application of fully implicit coupled method for 2D incompressible flows on unstructured grids
Zengin, Şeyda; Tarman, Işık Hakan; Department of Engineering Sciences (2012)
In the subject of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), there seems to be small number of important progress in the pressure-based methods for several decades. Recent studies on the implicit coupled algorithms for pressure-based methods have brought a new insight. This method seems to provide a huge reduction in the solution times over segregated methods. Fully implicit coupled algorithm for pressure-based methods is very new subject with only few papers in literature. One of the most important work in this a...
Non-linear optical properties of two dimensional quantum well structures
Ağanoğlu, Ruzin; Tomak, Mehmet; Department of Physics (2006)
In this work optical properties of two dimensional quantum well structures are studied. Variational calculation of the eigenstates in an isolated quantum well structure with and without the external electrical field is presented. At weak fields a quadratic Stark shift is found whose magnitude depends strongly on the finite well depth. It is observed that under external electrical field, the asymmetries due to lack of inversion symmetry leads to higher order nonlinear optical effects such as second order opt...
