A novel production method for tungsten by an electrochemical process was reported in 2010. The process involved electrochemical reduction of calcium tungstate (CaWO4) in calcium chloride containing molten salt solutions. Although the process promised remarkable advantages over the traditional method relying on the laboratory scale experiments, the sintering behavior of the powder needs to be characterized properly. This study aimed to investigate the liquid phase sintering of the electrochemically produced tungsten powder. At least ninety weight percent tungsten containing tungsten heavy alloys were prepared using different proportions of cobalt and nickel, and then sintered at 1500 and 1550oC under continuous flow of hydrogen gas. The results were compared with a control group, produced under the same conditions using a commercially available tungsten powder. Hardness and density measurements, X-ray diffraction and fluorescence analyses and scanning electron microscopy were used in the characterization of the raw materials and sintered bodies.

Characterization of nanostructured magnetite thin films produced by sol-gel processing
Eken, Ali Erdem; Özenbaş, Ahmet Macit (2009-06-01)
Nanocrystalline films of magnetite have been prepared by a novel sol-gel route in which, a solution of iron (III) nitrate dissolved in ethylene glycol was applied on glass substrates by spin coating. Coating solution showed Newtonian behaviour and viscosity was found as 0.0215 Pa.s. Annealing temperature was selected between 291 and 350 A degrees C by DTA analysis in order to obtain magnetite films. In-plane grazing angle XRD and TEM studies showed that magnetite phase was present upon annealing the films a...
Characterization of magnetite thin films produced by sol-gel processing

Magnetite (Fe3O4) thin films were prepared by a sol-gel process in which, a solution of iron (III) nitrate dissolved in ethylene glycol was applied on glass substrates by spin coating. Xerogel films were obtained by drying the coated films at 110 °C. The films were sintered between 300 °C and 450 °C in order to observe the phases existing in the films at different temperatures. Coating solution showed Newtonian behaviour and viscosity was found as 0.0215 Pa.s. DTA analysis showed that, sintering temperature...
Characterization of Ti-6Al-4V alloy foams synthesized by space holder technique
ESEN, ZİYA; Bor, Sakir (2011-03-25)
Ti-6Al-4V foams, biomedical candidate materials, were synthesized by powder metallurgical space holder technique as a result of evaporation of magnesium to achieve desired porosity content. Final products contained porosities in the range similar to 43-64% with an average macropore size between 485 and 572 mu m and a lamellar type Widmanstatten microstructure composed of alpha-platelets and beta-laths. Unlike the case of bulk Ti-6Al-4V alloy tested under compression loading, compression stress-strain curves...
Production and characterization of boron carbide powder by mechanochemical method
Büyüklüoğlu, Berkay; Sargın, Irmak; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2023-1-27)
In this study, the production of boron carbide (B4C) powders at room temperature by mechanochemical alloying is investigated. The conventional production methods of this industrially important material requires high energy consumption, whereas the low energy production methods could only produce small amounts. By optimizing the mechanochemical alloying, the know-how for the larger scale production is developed. The mechanochemical method consists of mechanical grinding and acid leaching to remove by-p...
