Removal of endocrine disrupter compounds and trace organics in membrane bioreactors
Komesli, Okan Tarik; Gökçay, Celal Ferdi; Department of Environmental Engineering (2012)
Endocrine disrupters and trace organic contaminants are recently recognized contaminants in wastewaters. Current concept is the multibarier approach where the contaminants are removed from the water cycle both by water and wastewater treatment facilities, as well as natural die-away. In this thesis work LC/MS/MS determination of selected EDC compounds, namely, diltiazem, progesterone, estrone, carbamazepine, benzyl butyl phthalate and acetaminophen, at ultra trace levels, have been carried out by optimizing...
Investigation of telomerase activity in diagnosis of endometrial and cervical cancer
Eskiocak, Uğur; Gündüz, Ufuk; Department of Biology (2007)
Human telomerase is a ribonucleoprotein complex that adds hexameric TTAGGG repeats to the ends of chromosomes in order to prevent their shortening. Telomerase activity has been evaluated for its diagnostic and prognostic value in cancer since it is observed in most malignancies but not in most normal somatic tissues. In this study telomerase activity was examined in tumor specimens obtained from cervix, endometrium and their non-cancerous regions by an improved telomeric repeat amplification protocol (TRAP)...
Endüstriyel Mikrobiyolojiye Giriş
Özkan Yücel, Umay G; Bayramoğlu, Tuba Hande; Can Güven, Emine; Gedik, Kadir (Palme Yayınevi, 2015-01-01)
Soot formation in industrial burners
Hırtıslı, İlkem; Kazanç Özerinç, Feyza; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2019)
This thesis examines the problem of soot (also known as coke) formation in industrial burners by thermal methods and morphological characterization. The fuel gas soot (FG) was collected during maintenance stop(s) of a burner in which refinery fuel gas (RFG) is burned. The obtained sample is crushed in a mortar and sieved to 75-106 μm, to minimize particle diameter effects. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) is used to determine the combustion characteristic temperatures of the sample. In the TGA experiments w...
