Bioflocculation of activated sludge: The role of calcium ions and extracellular polymers
Sanin, Faika Dilek (Informa UK Limited, 2000-12-01)
In an attempt to identify the bioflocculation mechanisms, this study examines the role of calcium ions in flocculation of activated sludge. Two calcium specific chelants, ethylenebis (oxyethylenenitrilo)tetraacetic acid (EGTA) and sodium hexametaphosphate (HMT) are used to extract calcium ions. Both chemicals successfully extract the calcium ions from sludge structure, which is confirmed either by an increase in solution calcium concentration or by a decrease in calcium concentration in the sludge solid mat...
BIOREACTOR APPLICATIONS OF GLUCOSE-OXIDASE COVALENTLY BONDED ON PHEMA MEMBRANES
ARICA, MY; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat (1993-09-01)
Glucose oxidase was immobilized onto poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) membranes by covalent bonding through epichlorohydrin. The highest immobilization efficiency was found to be 17.4%. The K(m) values were 5.9 and 8.8 mm for free and bound enzymes, respectively, and the V(max) values were 0.071 and 0.067 mm/min for free and bound enzymes. When the medium was saturated with oxygen K(m) was not altered significantly but V(max) was. The optimum pHs for the free and bound enzyme were determined to be 5 and 6,...

Bioactive agent loaded hydrogel systems for dental tissue engineering applications
Atila, Deniz Hazal; Tezcaner, Ayşen; HASIRCI, VASIF; Department of Engineering Sciences (2021-9-07)
Use of tissue engineered oral restoration products is currently a popular approach for treating dental defects that adversely affect oral health in ageing populations. Among scaffolds composed of long-lasting porous ceramics and biodegradable natural or synthetic polymers with varying service lives, injectable hydrogels attract attention to regenerate dental pulp due to the capability of filling non-uniform voids such as pulp cavity. In this study, two types of injectable hydrogels were formulized by design...
