Reclamation of printing effluents of a carpet manufacturing industry by membrane processes

The effluent from the print dying process of a carpet manufacturing industry was subjected to nanotiltration (NF) and ultrafiltration (UF) processes aiming at water reuse. Three alternatives were adopted; (i) NF, (ii) loose UF (MWCO 20,000 Da) followed by NF and (iii) tight UF (MWCO 1000 Da) followed by NE The separation performances and flux decline levels were compared for the detemination of the best process. Printing effluent was chemically precipitated using alum and fed to a lab-scale plate-and-frame ...
Recycling of Polymer Waste Using Different Techniques

Polylactic acid (PLA) is the most widely known renewable biodegradable polymer due to its mass production, good processability, optical, mechanical, thermal, and barrier properties. Hence, the production rate of PLA increased gradually during the last decade. However, PLA is known to have slow degradation rate in soil and marine environments, leading to significant waste accumulation with widespread usage of the polymer. Thus, recycling of PLA waste will become a significant environmental concern in near fu...

Recovery of brackish water from reactive dyeing wastewater by ultrafiltration

In this study, brackish water recovery from a real reactive dyeing textile effluent for reuse of water and salt was investigated. With the aim of improving the overall retention of species that are partly retained in a single stage, three different two-stage ultrafiltration scenarios were considered: 5 kDa followed by 5 kDa, 5 kDa followed by 2 kDa and 2 kDa followed by 2 kDa. The 2 kDa + 2 kDa scenario reduced the total organic carbon (TOC) from 239 +/- 9 mg/L to 41 +/- 7 mg/L, at 2 bar of transmembrane pr...
