PERC concept with an already developed roadmap for 24% production efficiency will be leading the photovoltaics industry in the upcoming years. In a few industrial pilot lines, efficiencies above 22% have already been attained. Pilot lines have important roles in bridging lab scale proven concepts with the products which are ready for mass production. Therefore, GUNAM Photovoltaic Line which is specialized on PERC concepts has been established to overcome the barriers that hinder the performance of c-Si solar cells in PERC concepts in a relevant environment. This article presents the first results of the studies from 6 months ramp up period of GPVL. A batch of standart PERC type solar cells with p-type base and atomic layer deposited Al2O3 rear passivation have been fabricated during the ramp up of the line. A detailed gain-loss analysis was performed to adress the optical, electrical and recombination losses in order to increase the cell efficiency.

Silicon heterojunction solar cells, a-Si:H/c-Si, are promising technology for future photovoltaic systems. An a-Si:H/c-Si heterojunction solar cell combines the advantages of single crystalline silicon photovoltaic with thin-film technologies. This thesis reports a detailed survey of heterojunction silicon solar cells with p-type wafer fabricated by magnetron sputtering and Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) techniques at low processing temperature. In the first part of this study, magnetron ...
Development of automobile chassis parts via aluminium extrusion and sand casting technology

Due to the environmental issues related with fuel consumption and additionally passenger safety, aluminum space frame chassis is promising a big opportunity to design a lightweight structure with a high stiffness. Despite the lower stiffness and strength of aluminum in comparison to the conventional steel chassis, it can be compensated with changing thickness and design of structure by space frame geometry In this study, instead of using steel for automobile chassis, main goal is producing a space frame str...
Optimization of laser processing for PERC type c-Si solar cells
Genç, Ezgi; Turan, Raşit; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2019)
Passivated Emitter Rear Contact (PERC) type solar cells, which currently owns a similar market share as the standard type solar cells, is expected to be the dominant type of the photovoltaic (PV) market in near future (ITRPV, 2019) due to its high performance/cost ratio. Hence, it is critical to optimize PERC process steps to achieve higher efficiencies. In PERC concept, the stack of a passivation layer and SiNx capping layer is locally ablated to form low recombination and low resistive contacts. In this w...
OPTIMIZATION OF EMITTER LAYER IN N-TYPE BIFACIAL CRYSTALLINE SOLAR CELL
Salimi, Yasaman; Turan, Raşit; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2022-5-09)
P-type solar cells currently hold most of the market share in industrial solar cell fabrication statistics. NREL's highest efficiency record for p-type crystalline perc cells is 22.8%. However, there is an ever-increasing interest in n-type wafers due to the many advantages they have against p-type cells. According to the ITRPV's estimation, the n-type cell structures will be taking half the industry's share by 2031. Compared to p-type cells, n-type cells yield better efficiency and lifetime values and are ...
