DEVELOPMENT OF AN EXTENSIBLE HETEROGENEOUS SWARM ROBOT PLATFORM
Bilaloğlu, Cem; Turgut, Ali Emre; Şahin, Erol; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2022-1-13)
This thesis introduces Kobot -- an extensible heterogeneous swarm robot platform. Kobot platform uses a common hardware and software architecture based on off-the-shelf components, 3-D printing, and open-source software that evolves with state of the art. Robots built using this common architecture range from wheeled to flying robots and formed a heterogeneous swarm. The common architecture enabled developing and testing systems for the lightweight flying robots on resourceful ground robots. As a result, Ko...
Development of a remotely-controlled road header robot
Entezari, Ramin; Demirel, Nuray; Department of Mining Engineering (2014)
A road header is a mechanized excavating equipment utilized widely in tunnel construction and underground mining. It is composed of a boom-mounted rotating cutting head, a loading device, a conveyor, and a crawler travelling track to move the entire machine forward and backward. The productivity and performance of the road header is directly affected by the operator efficiency. Besides that road headers are usually operated in deep excavations and hazardous underground mine environments. Therefore, developm...
Development of an octree based grid coarsening and multigrid flow solution
Mahmutyazıcıoğlu, Emel; Aksel, Mehmet Haluk; Tuncer, İsmail Hakkı; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2010)
The multigrid technique is one of the most effective techniques to achieve the reduction of the CPU cost for flow solvers. The multigrid strategy uses the multilevel grids which are the coarsening subsets of fine grid. An explicit solver rapidly reduces the high frequency errors on the computational grids. Since high frequency errors on coarse grids correspond to low frequency errors on fine grids, cycling through the coarse grid levels rapidly reduces the errors ranging from high-to-low frequency. The aim ...
Development of a decision support system for performance-based landfill design
Çelik, Başak; Ünlü, Kahraman; Department of Environmental Engineering (2008)
Performance-based landfill design approach is a relatively new design approach adopted recently in solid waste management and applied in USA, European Union countries and some developing-economy countries like South Africa. This approach rejects the strict design criteria and accommodates a design that selects the most appropriate design components of a landfill (final cover, bottom liner, and leachate collection system) and their design details to result in the best overall performance with respect to perf...
