Diamond-shaped hole array in double-layer metal sheets for negative index of refraction
Yilmaz, A.; Sabah, C. (2013-03-01)
In this paper, a new design of hole array in a double-layer periodic arrangement is introduced and investigated both numerically and experimentally for the negative index of refraction. The structure shows similar behavior to that of the corresponding fishnet metamaterials. The effective constitutive parameters are revealed by using retrieval procedure to verify the negative refraction nature of the proposed structure. A relatively high figure of merit (FOM=Re(n)/Im(n)=70.05) is achieved at the K-band (1826...
Diamond Power Electronics: From 1kV towards 10kV Breakdown Voltage
Han, Z.; Lee, H.-P.; Bayram, Barış; Bayram, C. (2022-01-01)
The rapidly growing demand for power electronics to rout, control, and convert electrical power motivates recent research into devices based on ultra-wide-bandgaps semiconductors. Diamond-based semiconductor devices have drawn increasing attention in high-power applications due to diamond's extraordinary electrical and physical properties. It has a 5.5 eV band gap and over 7.7MV cm-1 breakdown field. Diamond is also one of the best thermal conductors with thermal conductivity over 2200 Wm-1k-1, making it an...
Diamond-Based Capacitive Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers in Immersion
Cetin, Ahmet Murat; Bayram, Barış (2013-02-01)
Diamond is a superior membrane material for capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers (CMUTs). By using ultrananocrystalline diamond (UNCD) membrane and plasma-activated wafer bonding technology, a single diamond-based circular CMUT is demonstrated and operated in immersion for the first time. The diamond-based CMUT, biased at 100 V, is excited with a 10-cycle burst of 36 Vp-p sine signal at 3.5 MHz. Pressure generated on a 2-D plane coincident with the normal of the CMUT is measured using a broadband...
