Serious leisure, motivation, experience value and behavioral intentions in charity sport event context
Yazıcı, Tub; Koçak, M. Settar,; Department of Physical Education and Sports (2020)
Charity sport events are valuable in terms of both actively enjoying leisure time, obtaining amazing experiences, and fundraising for a nonprofit organization, thus serving a meaningful purpose. Charity sporting events need a specific research focus apart from other sporting events because “cause” and “activity” at hand have a direct and mutual effect on the interest and commitment of individuals to the event (Filo et al., 2009). A model integrating key variables from the studies of serious leisure, charity...
Displaced memories, or the architecture of forgetting and remembrance
Sargın, Güven Arif (SAGE Publications, 2004-10-01)
Under the political pressure of Turkey's Modernity Project Ankara's urban-planning processes and its monuments have always been utilized as significant tools of architectural displacement in the expedience of utopias, both socially and spatially. Urban-scale operations since the 1950s, a significant conservative breakthrough as a result of global liberalism and populism, however, have overwhelmed the secular state's organized forgetting, and have increasingly demobilized the capital city's modernist collect...

Gray's value-puralism: a critical analysis
Parmaksız, Abdullah Umut; Üstüner, Fahriye ; Department of Psychology (2007)
In this study, John Gray’s theory of value-pluralism is critically analyzed. Gray’s modus vivendi, based on Isaiah Berlin’s criticism of monism, is a theory that aims to create the conditions in which peace and diversity in late-modern societies can be protected. Gray argues that a legally pluralistic system where collectives have autonomy is more serving to peace than its liberal alternatives. This study argues that Gray fails to achieve its goal of promoting diversity. This is due to the fact that Gray’s ...
Broadband One Way Propagation via Dielectric Waveguides with Unequal Effective Index
Oner, B. B.; Ustun, K.; KURT, HAMZA; OKYAY, Ali Kemal; Sayan, Gönül (2014-10-16)
We present an efficient approach for broad band one way propagation of light by parallel and unequal dielectric waveguides leading different effective phase shifts. Three dimensional numerical simulations show that 30% operating bandwidth is achieved.
