Class number of (v, n, M)-extensions
Alkam, O; Bilhan, M (Cambridge University Press (CUP), 2001-02-01)
An analogue of cyclotomic number fields for function fields over the finite held F-q was investigated by L. Carlitz in 1935 and has been studied recently by D. Hayes, M. Rosen, S. Galovich and others. For each nonzero polynomial M in F-q[T], we denote by k(Lambda (M)) the cyclotomic function field associated with M, where k = F-q(T). Replacing T by 1/T in k and considering the cyclotomic function held F-upsilon that corresponds to (1/T)(upsilon +1) gets us an extension of k, denoted by L-upsilon, which is t...
Individualism and collectivism in a model and scale of balanced differentiation and integration
İmamoğlu, Emine Olcay (1998-01-01)
To discern some key features of individualistic and collectivistic human model conceptualizations within a parsimonious framework, the author proposed a model based on the notion that balancing the basic orientations for self-developmental differentiation (individuation) and interrelational integration (interrelatedness) promotes optimal development. The Balanced Differentiation and Integration Scale (BDIS) and the Balanced Orientation Scale (BOS), which was developed as a validity check for the BDIS, were ...
Non-governmental organizations and democratization in Post-Soviet Kyrgyzstan
Ataşer, Gökhan Alper; Ergun Özbolat, Ayça; Department of Sociology (2005)
This thesis analyzes the relationship between NGOs and the democratization process in post-Soviet Kyrgyzstan. The conditions shaping both the civil society and political development are analysed in the light of findings obtained through in-depth interviews with NGO leaders in Kyrgyzstan. Despite relative freedom for NGOs, civil society in Kyrgyzstan is still in its infancy. Soviet era conception of roles attributed to state and society still persist especially among the governmental officials and general po...
Inclusive Search for Supersymmetry Using Razor Variables in pp Collisions at root s=7 TeV
Chatrchyan, S.; et. al. (2013-08-01)
An inclusive search is presented for new heavy particle pairs produced in root s = 7 TeV proton-proton collisions at the LHC using 4.7 +/- 0.1 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. The selected events are analyzed in the 2D razor space of M-R, an event-by-event indicator of the heavy particle mass scale, and R, a dimensionless variable related to the missing transverse energy. The third-generation sector is probed using the event heavy-flavor content. The search is sensitive to generic supersymmetry models with ...
Generating functions and their applications
Bilgin, Begül; Doğanaksoy, Ali; Department of Cryptography (2010)
Generating functions are important tools that are used in many areas of mathematics and especially statistics. Besides analyzing the general structure of sequences and their asymptotic behavior; these functions, which can be roughly thought as the transformation of sequences into functions, are also used effciently to solve combinatorial problems. In this thesis, the effects of the transformations of generating functions on their corresponding sequences and the effects of the change in sequences on the gene...
