Equiatomic quaternary Heusler compounds (EQHCs) are very promising materials for spintronic applications due to their excellent electronic and magnetic properties. In this study, structural, electronic, magnetic, mechanic, and dynamic properties of TiVFeZ (Z=Al, Si, Ge) EQHCs are investigated. Three nonequivalent structural configurations of α, β, and γ type structures are considered. The γ is defined as the most stable phase for all these compounds and has a half-metallic character. The predicted Curie temperatures of TiVFeAl, TiVFeSi, and TiVFeGe compounds are about 488 K, 256 K, and 306 K, respectively. We also show that TiVFeZ (Z=Al, Si, Ge) have thermodynamic, dynamic, and mechanical stabilities. The presented results reveal that these compounds are potential materials for spintronics applications.

Yıldız, Buğra; Erkisi, Aytac; Sürücü, Gökhan (2022-05-15)
In this study, magnetic and electronic nature, optical behavior, and elasticity properties of YMnS2 compound have been investigated by using density functional theory (DFT). The compound belongs to the chalcopyrite family having tetragonal crystal structure with 122 (I-42d) space group. Firstly, the optimization process has been done for ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic, and paramagnetic orders to find most stable magnetic order and the formation energies have been determined. Negative formation energies pr...
Magnetic monitoring approach to nanocrystallization kinetics in Fe-based bulk amorphous alloy
Duman, Nagehan; Akdeniz, Mahmut Vedat; Mehrabov, Amdulla (2013-12-01)
Much of the recent metallic glass research is devoted to controlling the crystallization of amorphous precursors with the purpose of obtaining amorphous matrix nanocrystalline alloys which combine unmatched soft magnetic properties with good mechanical properties. Therefore, it is crucial to have better understanding of crystallization mechanisms and thermal dependence of nanocrystals that are formed by annealing. This study deals with the nanociystallization kinetics of Cu-modified Fe-Co-Ni-B-Si-Nb bulk am...
A density functional theory investigation of graphene-based materials
Sayın, Ceren Sibel; Toffoli, Hande; Department of Physics (2014)
Employability of graphene-based materials in various technological applications in order to exploit its exceptional properties is achieved/improved via their interactions with various atoms, molecules, nanostructures and surfaces. In this thesis, the interaction of cyclohexane and derived molecules, carbon nanotubes and metallic surfaces with both pristine and defected graphene structures are investigated using density functional theory.
A comparative study of the electronic properties of aluminum nitride compounds
Mohammad, Rezek; Katırcıoğlu, Şenay (2016-01-01)
Electronic properties of aluminum nitride in wurtzite, zinc-blende, and rock-salt phases are investigated by a full potential-linearized augmented plane waves method based on density functional theory within standard local density approximation and its four improved versions. Local density approximation corrected by the generalized gradient functional of Perdew-Wang-Engel-Vosko is found to be more successful than the other generalized gradient functional approximations considered in this work for providing ...
Computational studies on nitratoethylnitramine (NENA), its tautomers and charged forms
Türker, Burhan Lemi; Atalar, Taner (2009-02-15)
An energetic material, nitratoethylnitramine (NENA), its tautomers and also its charged forms are considered quantum chemically, using various basis sets at the levels of ab initio and density functional theories (DFT). NENA has been found to be sensitive to negative charge development, resulting in rupture of O-NO(2) bond. Also conformational and molecular dynamics (MD) studies have been performed on NENA. Various geometrical parameters, energies and infrared spectra have been obtained and discussed. Also,...
