A note on the college-premium framework
Elitaş, Zeynep (Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi (Ankara, Turkey), 2014-4-1)
This paper demonstrates that the estimates produced by the canonical collegepremium framework are nonnegligibly sensitive to the assumptions on the relative supply index, the key object in the analysis of the college premium. In particular, we argue that this framework does not offer a systematic way to account for the timeseries evolution of the efficiency units of labor supply. This fragility is a source of empirical non-robustness and has important implications for the analysis of wage inequality. We sho...
A note on the products (1(mu)+1)(2(mu)+1) ... (n(mu)+1)
Guerel, Erhan; Kişisel, Ali Ulaş Özgür (2010-01-01)
Let Omega(mu)(n) = (1(mu) + 1)(2(mu) + 1) ... (n(mu) + 1) where mu >= 2 is an integer. We prove that Omega(3)(n) is never squarefull, and in particular never a square, using arguments similar to those in J. Cilleruelo (2008) [2], where it is proven that Omega(2)(n) is not a square for n not equal 3. In T. Amdeberhan et al (2008) [1], among many other results, it is claimed that Omega(mu)(n) is not a square if mu is an odd prime and n > 12. However, we have found a gap in the proof of this statement, which w...
A short note on permutation trinomials of prescribed type
Akbal, Yildirim; GÜLMEZ TEMÜR, BURCU; Ongan, Pinar (Informa UK Limited, 2019-11-21)
We show that there are no permutation trinomials of the form hox 1/4 x5 ox5oq1 xq1 1 over Fq2 where q is not a power of 2. Together with a result of Zha, Z., Hu, L., Fan, S., hox permutes Fq2 if q 1/4 2k where k 2 omod 4, this gives a complete classification of those q's such that hox permutes F-q(2).
A note on the products ((m+1)(2)+1)((m+2)(2)+1) ... (n(2)+1) and ((m+1)(3)+1)((m+2)(3)+1) ... (n(3)+1)
Gurel, Erhan (2016-05-01)
We prove that for any positive integer m there exists a positive real number N-m such that whenever the integer n >= m neither the product P-m(n) = ((m + 1)(2) + 1) ((m + 2)(2) + 1) ... (n(2) + 1) nor the product Q(m)(n) = ((m + 1)(3) + 1)((m + 2)(3) + 1) ... (n(3) + 1) is a square.
