We show that there are no permutation trinomials of the form hox 1/4 x5 ox5oq1 xq1 1 over Fq2 where q is not a power of 2. Together with a result of Zha, Z., Hu, L., Fan, S., hox permutes Fq2 if q 1/4 2k where k 2 omod 4, this gives a complete classification of those q's such that hox permutes F-q(2).

For a tower F-1 subset of or equal to F-2 subset of or equal to ... of algebraic function fields F-i/F-q, define lambda := lim(i-->infinity) N(F-i)/g(F-i), where N(F-i) is the number of rational pieces and g(F-i) is the genus of F-i/F-q. The classical involution theorem for groups of finite Morley rank

This paper gives a partial answer to the Cherlin-Zil'ber Conjecture, which states that every infinite simple group of finite Morley rank is isomorphic to an algebraic group over an algebraically closed field. The classification of the generic case of tame groups of odd type follows from the main result of this work, which is an analogue of Aschbacher's Classical Involution Theorem for finite simple groups.
