Fabrication of silicon nanowires by electroless etching and investigation of their photovoltaic applications
Özdemir, Barış; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah; Turan, Raşit; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2011)
Silicon is the most important semiconducting material for optoelectronics owing to its suitable and tunable physical properties. Even though there are several alternatives, silicon based solar cells are still the most widely produced and commercially feasible system. Extensive efforts have been spent in order to increase the efficiency and decrease the cost of these systems. The studies that do not focus on replacement of the semiconducting material, mostly concentrate on the developments that could be brou...
Fabrication of nano- to micron-sized patterns using zeolites: Its application in BSA adsorption
Kirdeciler, SALİH KAAN; Özen, Can; Akata, Burcu (2014-06-01)
Nano to micron-sized zeolite A (Z-A) and silicalite (Z-SIL) patterns were generated using the combinations of electron beam lithography (EBL) or photolithography (PL) with direct attachment method to be able to generate differentiated areas on a single surface in a cheap and facile way. The possibility to generate minimum sized zeolite patterns on top of zeolite monolayers was investigated by using EBL to understand the capability of the system for the first time. Also generation of large scale zeolite patt...
Fabrication of well-organized plasmonic interfaces by nanosphere lithography
Kasap, Yusuf; Bek, Alpan; Department of Physics (2016)
In this thesis, we propose to design plasmonic metal nanostructures by utilizing lithography with nanospheres of various diameters. When deposited at a high surface coverage, nanospheres form closed-pack trigonal lattices on surfaces, leaving concave triangular gaps in-between. After evaporation of thin metal films and lifting-off the nanospheres, metal islands which support plasmonic resonances and of the gap shape are fabricated in a trigonal periodicity on the substrate material. Depending on nanosphere ...
Fabrication of helical polymeric hollow fiber membranes and characterization of their fouling behaviours
Yücel, Hazal; Çulfaz Emecen, Pınar Zeynep; Department of Chemical Engineering (2018)
Membranes are used in many separation processes such as gas separation, microfiltration, ultrafiltration and hemodialysis. Hollow fiber membranes are advantageous since they have a high surface area per volume and are easily backwashed which is an advantage for fouling removal. The most important factors that affect the performance of filtration membranes are concentration polarization and fouling. They increase operational cost and reduce membrane lifetime and permeate flux. One approach that can reduce co...
Fabrication and characterization of bilayered tissue scaffolds incorporating bioactive agents for skin tissue engineering applications
Aktürk, Ömer; Keskin, Dilek; Bilici, Temel; Department of Engineering Sciences (2015)
In this study, it was aimed to fabricate tissue scaffolds from different biological polymers (collagen, silk fibroin and sericin) for skin tissue engineering applications. For this purpose, bilayered scaffolds composed of epidermal (collagen/sericin films) and dermal (collagen sponges, collagen matrices or silk fibroin matrices) layers were produced with different biomaterial fabrication methods. Casting and solvent evaporation (film), lyophilization/freeze-drying (sponge) and dry/wet electro-spinning (micr...
