Synthesis and electropolymerization of donor-acceptor-donor type monomers based on azobenzene-substituted thieno[3,4-c]pyrrole-4,6-dione acceptors

By using donor-acceptor-donor approach, a new series of photo responsive and electroactive trimeric monomers, namely (E)-5-(4-(phenyldiazenyl)phenyl)-1,3-di(thiophen-2-yl)-4H-thieno[3,4- c]pyrrole-4,6(5H)-dione (T-2-AB ), (E)-1,3-bis(2,3-dihydrothieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxin-5-yl)-5-(4-(phenyldiazenyl)phenyl)- 4H-thieno[3,4-c]pyrrole-4,6(5H)-dione (E-2-AB ) and (E)-1,3-bis(3,3-didecyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-thieno[3,4- b][1,4]dioxepin-6-yl)-5-(4-(phenyldiazenyl)phenyl)-4H-thieno[3,4-c]pyrrole-4,6(5H)-dione (P-2-AB ), was synthesized and characterized. The oxidation potential of the monomers was controlled by the strength of donor units and the following trend was observed for them: Eox (T-2-AB ) > E-ox (P-2-AB ) > E-ox (E-2-AB ). Also, a similar behavior was observed for their band gap values: 2.53 eV for T-2-AB , 2.18 eV for E-2-AB and 2.28 eV for P-2-AB . The monomers were polymerized successfully via electrochemical methods in order to give electrochromic ambipolar conjugated polymers bearing narrow optical band gaps: 1.71 eV, 1.54 eV and 1.68 eV for PT2-AB, PE2-AB , and PP2-AB, respectively. Also, the polymer films are stable and robust. Moreover, the three monomers and soluble PP(2-)AB polymer exhibited trans to cis photo-isomerization upon irradiation with UV light. In addition, the photoluminescence intensity of the monomers in toluene was found to decrease with increasing acid concentration, which makes them potential candidates to be amenable as pH sensors. Turac, Ersen; Sahmetlioglu, Ertugrul; Demircan, Aydin; Toppare, Levent Kamil (2012-11-05)
Ferrocene-substituted conducting polymer namely poly(trans-1-(4-methyl-3'-thienyl)-2-(ferrocenyl)ethene-co-3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) [P(MTFE-co-EDOT)] was synthesized and its electrochromic properties were studied. Monomer, MTFE, was obtained using 2-(ferrocenyl)ethene and 3-methyl-4-bromothiophene. The structure of monomer was determined via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR techniques. The copolymer was synthesized using this monomer and EDOT. The resulting copolymer P(...
Target identification using ISAR imaging techniques
Atılgan, Erdinç Levent; Ünver, Baki Zafer; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2005)
A proper time-frequency transform technique suppresses the blurring and smearing effect of the time-varying Doppler shift on the target image. The conventional target imaging method uses the Fourier transform for extracting the Doppler shift from the received radar pulse. Since the Doppler shift is timevarying for rotating targets, the constructed images will be degraded. In this thesis, the Doppler shift information required for the Range-Doppler image of the target is extracted by using high resolution ti...
An improved method of photometric stereo using local shape from shading
Sakarya, U; Erkmen, İsmet (Elsevier BV, 2003-10-01)
This paper presents an improved photometric stereo (PS) method by integrating it with a local shape from shading (SFS) algorithm. PS produces the initial estimate of image for the global accuracy and also provides the recovery of albedo, SFS supplies the more detailed information within each homogeneous area. The quality of depth obtained by integrating PS and SFS is compared with the real depth using absolute dept error function, and the improvement ranging from 2.3 to 14% over PS is obtained.

This paper presents a CMOS image sensor with a 32 x 32 pixel array for cell capture, detection, and quantification. Pixels measuring 15 pm x 15 mu m have a modified structure, suitable for post-CMOS electroless gold plating, which enables surface activation for cell capture without the need for any intermediate layer. This structure also increases the detection probability of captured cells, even when cells are much smaller than the pixel, owing to a special light mask implemented on pixels. Cells as small ...
Statistical Analysis and Directional Coding of Layer-based HDR Image Coding Residue
Feyiz, Kutan; Kamışlı, Fatih; Zerman, Emin; Valenzise, Giuseppe; Koz, Alper; Dufaux, Frederic (2017-10-18)
Existing methods for layer-based backward compatible high dynamic range (HDR) image and video coding mostly focus on the rate-distortion optimization of base layer while neglecting the encoding of the residue signal in the enhancement layer. Although some recent studies handle residue coding by designing function based fixed global mapping curves for 8-bit conversion and exploiting standard codecs on the resulting 8-bit images, they do not take the local characteristics of residue blocks into account. Inspi...
