A Lancet Commission for COVID-19 task force is shaping recommendations to achieve vaccine and therapeu-tics access, justice, and equity. This includes ensuring safety and effectiveness harmonized through robust sys-tems of global pharmacovigilance and surveillance. Global production requires expanding support for development, manufacture, testing, and distribution of vaccines and therapeutics to low-and middle-income countries (LMICs). Global intellectual property rules must not stand in the way of research, production, tech-nology transfer, or equitable access to essential health tools, and in context of pandemics to achieve increased manufacturing without discouraging innovation. Global governance around product quality requires channelling widely distributed vaccines through WHO prequalification (PQ)/emergency use listing (EUL) mechanisms and greater use of national regulatory authorities. A World Health Assembly (WHA) reso-lution would facilitate improvements and consistency in quality control and assurances. Global health systems require implementing steps to strengthen national systems for controlling COVID-19 and for influenza vacci-nations for adults including pregnant and lactating women. A collaborative research network should strive to establish open access databases for bioinformatic analyses, together with programs directed at human capac-ity utilization and strengthening. Combating anti-science recognizes the urgency for countermeasures to address a global-wide disinformation movement dominating the internet and infiltrating parliaments and local governments. Achieving global equity for COVID-19 vaccines: Stronger international partnerships and greater advocacy and solidarity are needed
Figueroa, J. Peter; et. al. (2021-09-01)
Peter Figueroa and co-authors advocate for equity in the worldwide provision of COVID-19 vaccines.
Lives over profits: An analysis of impact of the transnational coalition's equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines campaign
Bayraktar Ozan, Elif; Bahçecik, Şerif Onur; Department of International Relations (2022-12)
This thesis analyzes the impact of the equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines of the transnational coalition, the People’s Vaccine Alliance. The thesis will specifically look into the campaigns of Human Rights Watch and Oxfam as major INGOs who are members of the People’s Vaccine Alliance. The impact will be discussed in terms of framing and agenda-setting, change in discursive positions, change in policy, change in institutional procedures and change in behavior of different actors; such as states and pharm...
Operation Warp Speed: implications for global vaccine security

Several global efforts are underway to develop COVID-19 vaccines, and interim analyses from phase 3 clinical testing have been announced by nine organisations: Pfizer, the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Sinopharm Group, Sinovac Biotech, Johnson & Johnson, Novavax, and CanSino Biologics. The US programme known as Operation Warp Speed provided US$18 billion in funding for development of vaccines that were intended for US populations. Depending on safety and...
A Secure Semantic Interoperability Infrastructure for Inter-Enterprise Sharing of Electronic Healthcare Records
Boniface, Mike; Watkins, E. Rowland; Saleh, Ahmed; Doğaç, Asuman; Eichelberg, Marco (2006-06-09)
Healthcare professionals need access to accurate and complete healthcare records for effective assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients. The non-interoperability of healthcare information systems means that inter-enterprise access to a patient's history over many distributed encounters is difficult to achieve. The ARTEMIS project has developed a secure semantic web service infrastructure for the interoperability of healthcare information systems. Healthcare professionals share services and medical in...
Incorporation of personal Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) data into a national level electronic health record for disease risk assessment, part 2: The incorporation of SNP into the national health information system of Turkey
Beyan, Timur; Aydın Son, Yeşim (2014-08-01)
©Timur Beyan, Yeşim Aydin Son.Background: A personalized medicine approach provides opportunities for predictive and preventive medicine. Using genomic, clinical, environmental, and behavioral data, the tracking and management of individual wellness is possible. A prolific way to carry this personalized approach into routine practices can be accomplished by integrating clinical interpretations of genomic variations into electronic medical record (EMR)s/electronic health record (EHR)s systems. Today, various...
