Nutrient Exchange Fluxes between Aegean and Black Seas through The Marmara Sea
Tuğrul, Süleyman; Beşiktepe, Şükrü Turan; Salihoğlu, İlkay (2002-01-01)
Long-term data obtained in the Turkish Strait System (TSS) including the Sea of Marmara, the Dardanelles and Bosphorus straits, during 1990-2000, have permitted us to calculate seasonal and annual fluxes of water and nutrients (nitrate, phosphate) exchanged between the Aegean and Black Seas through the TSS. Two-layer flow regimes in the TSS introduce the brackish waters of the Black Sea into the Aegean basin of the northeastern Mediterranean throughout the year. A counter flow in the TSS carries the salty M...

Nutrient Loading, Temperature and Heat Wave Effects on Nutrients, Oxygen and Metabolism in Shallow Lake Mesocosms Pre-Adapted for 11 Years
Jeppesen, Erik; Audet, Joachim; Davidson, Thomas A.; Neif, Erika M.; Cao, Yu; Filiz, Nur; Lauridsen, Torben L.; Larsen, Soren E.; Beklioğlu, Meryem; Sh, Tserenpil; Sondergaard, Martin (2021-01-01)
Global changes (e.g., warming and population growth) affect nutrient loadings and temperatures, but global warming also results in more frequent extreme events, such as heat waves. Using data from the world's longest-running shallow lake experimental mesocosm facility, we studied the effects of different levels of nutrient loadings combined with varying temperatures, which also included a simulated 1-month summer heat wave (HW), on nutrient and oxygen concentrations, gross ecosystem primary production (GPP)...
