Collaborative building control: a conceptual mixed-initiative framework
Topak, Fatih; Pekeriçli, Mehmet Koray (Taylor & Francis, 2021-6-22)
In the last two decades, automation systems have shown advanced developments and are widely adopted for various purposes in many fields. However, automation in buildings has not gained popularity and has a low acceptance level amongst the occupants. Decreased perceived control, ever-changing dynamic human needs, and standardized, one-size-fits-all approach in current automation systems lead to disharmony in human-machine coexistence. Although well-established continuous interaction between building control ...
Collaborative project-based learning: an integrative science and technological education project
Baser, Derya; Ozden, M. Yasar; Karaaslan, Hasan (2017-06-01)
Background: Blending collaborative learning and project-based learning (PBL) based on Wolff (2003) design categories, students interacted in a learning environment where they developed their technology integration practices as well as their technological and collaborative skills.Purpose: The study aims to understand how seventh grade students perceive a collaborative web-based science project in light of Wolff's design categories. The goal of the project is to develop their technological and collaborative s...
Collaborative working spaces: project ecologies and means of interaction and collaboration
Ertan, Seren; Gürsel Dino, İpek; Department of Architecture (2019)
Industrial revolutions through time changed the nature of work and triggered a shift from a 'service' economy towards a knowledge-based economy that is derived from information and ideas. This shift, which was concerned with organizing data and products, to a 'knowledge' economy that relied on worldwide information and communications network, brought along the necessity of reconsidering work practices and concepts. Changing work practices caused organizations to become more agile and flexible towards consta...
Collaboration environments for construction: Implementation case studies
Erdogan, Bilge; Anumba, Chimay J.; Bouchlaghem, Dino; Nielsen, Yasemin (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2008-10-01)
Although emerging technologies offer the construction industry many opportunities for computer supported collaboration environments, the companies adopting these technologies usually fail in achieving the full benefits from their implementations. The reason for this is found to be focusing too much on the technical factors and ignoring or underestimating the factors related to change, implementation, human and organizational factors, and the roles of the management and end users. Each new information techno...
Feedback motion planning of a novel fully actuated unmanned surface vehicle via sequential composition of random elliptical funnels
Özdemir, Oğuz; Ankaralı, Mustafa Mert; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2022-12-27)
This thesis proposes and analyzes a motion planning and control schema for unmanned surface vehicles that fuses sampling-based approaches’ probabilistic completeness with closed-loop approaches’ robustness. The Proposed schema is based on the sequential composition of elliptical funnels, and it consists of two stages: tree generation and motion control. For validation of the approach, we carried out experiments using both simulation and physical setup besides the mathematical analysis. In order to have a co...
