In this paper, we describe work on Bayesian classifiers for distinguishing between homogeneous structures, textures, edges and junctions. We build semi-local classifiers from hand-labeled images to distinguish between these four different kinds of structures based on the concept of intrinsic dimensionality. The built classifier is tested on standard and non-standard images. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.

Magnetic properties of multiband U=infinity Hubbard model on anisotropic triangular and rectangular lattice strips
CHERANOVSKII, VO; Esentürk, Okan; PAMUK, HO (1998-11-01)
We study the dependence of the ground state spin of a multiband Hubbard model with infinite electron repulsion on anisotropic triangular and rectangular lattice strips on the model parameters. Considering the results of numerical calculations for the exact spectra of finite triangular lattice strips at different values of hopping integrals, we show the existence of a type of magnetic transitions with the jump of the ground state spin between minimal and maximal values. This transition is found only for spec...

Mixed-level orthogonal arrays are basic structures in experimental design. We develop three algorithms that compute Rao- and Gilbert-Varshamov-type bounds for mixed-level orthogonal arrays. The computational complexity of the terms involved in the original combinatorial representations of these bounds can grow fast as the parameters of the arrays increase and this justifies the construction of these algorithms. The first is a recursive algorithm that computes the bounds exactly, the second is based on an as...
Artificial-neural-network prediction of hexagonal lattice parameters for non-stoichiometric apatites
Kockan, Umit; Ozturk, Fahrettin; Evis, Zafer (2014-01-01)
In this study, hexagonal lattice parameters (a and c) and unit-cell volumes of non-stoichiometric apatites of M-10(TO4)(6)X-2 are predicted from their ionic radii with artificial neural networks. A multilayer-perceptron network is used for training. The results indicate that the Bayesian regularization method with four neurons in the hidden layer with a tansig activation function and one neuron in the output layer with a purelin function gives the best results. It is found that the errors for the predicted ...
Parallel linear solution of large structures on heterogeneous PC clusters
Kurç, Özgür (2006-12-01)
In this paper, a parallel solution framework for the linear static analysis of large structures on heterogeneous PC clusters is presented. The framework consists of two main steps; data preparation and parallel solution. The parallel solution is performed by a substructure based method with direct solvers. The aim of the data preparation step is to create the best possible substructures so that the condensation times of substructures are balanced. Examples which illustrate the applicability and the efficien...
Numerical Modeling of Electromagnetic Scattering from Periodic Structures by Transformation Electromagnetics
ÖZGÜN, ÖZLEM; Kuzuoğlu, Mustafa (2016-09-22)
The transformation electromagnetics is applied to the modeling of electromagnetic scattering from periodic structures in conjunction with the finite element method with periodic boundary conditions. In a unit cell of periodic structure, a uniform mesh is used over a flat surface and the arbitrary periodic surface is modeled by a coordinate transformation. The major advantage of this approach is that arbitrary geometries can be handled by using a single and simple mesh. Therefore, repeated computations (such...
