Efficient Light Trapping in Inverted Nanopyramid Thin Crystalline Silicon Membranes for Solar Cell Applications
MAVROKEFALOS, Anastassios; HAN, Sang Eon; Yerci, Selçuk; Branham, Matthew S.; CHEN, Gang (2012-06-01)
Thin-film crystalline silicon (c-Si) solar cells with light-trapping structures can enhance light absorption within the semiconductor absorber layer and reduce material usage. Here we demonstrate that an inverted nanopyramid light-trapping scheme for c-Si thin films, fabricated at wafer scale via a low-cost wet etching process, significantly enhances absorption within the c-Si layer. A broadband enhancement in absorptance that approaches the Yablo-novitch limit (Yablo-novitch, E. J. Opt. Soc. Am. 1987, 72, ...
Efficient synthesis of novel near ir emitting distyrylboradiazaindacene sensitizers for photodynamic therapy
Dost, Zeynep; Akkaya, Engin Umut; Department of Chemistry (2006)
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a noninvasive method of treating malignant tumors and age-related macular degeneration. Current practice of PDT is limited to a few functionalized porphyrins, however these compounds are not considered to be ideal drugs for use in PDT. Among the limitations, the most prominent is the low extinction coefficient of porphyrins in the body’s therapeutic window. Therefore, there is a significant impetus to develop novel and better efficiency sensitizers for use in PDT. Boradiazainda...
Efficient benzodithiophene and thienopyrroledione containing random polymers as components for organic solar cells
Azeri, Ozge; Aktas, Ece; Istanbulluoglu, Cagla; Hacioglu, Serife O.; CEVHER, ŞEVKİ CAN; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Çırpan, Ali (2017-12-20)
Benzodithiophene and thienopyrroledione containing two random copolymers were designed and synthesized. Electrochemical and optical studies prove that these copolymers could be candidates for organic solar cells applications. The HOMO and LUMO values were determined using cyclic voltammetry as -5.53 and -3.43 eV for P1 and -5.54 and -3.53 eV for P2, respectively. The optical band gaps of the polymers were calculated as 2.10 and 2.01 eV using UV-VIS spectroscopy for P1 and P2, correspondingly. Bulk-heterojun...
Efficient light emitting diodes from polyfluorene copolymer blends
Çırpan, Ali; Karasz, FE (Elsevier BV, 2005-04-30)
Highly efficient light emitting diodes were obtained by blending blue-emitting poly [(9,9-dioctylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl)-alt-co-(N,N'-diphenyl)-N,N-di(p-butyl-oxyphenyl)-1 ,4-diaminobenzene] (1) with green-emitting poly [(9,9-dioctyl-2,7-divinylene-fluorenylene)-alt-co-{2-methoxy-5-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene}] (II). Only green emission was obtained from the films of polymer blends and from corresponding double-layer LEDs, indicating an almost complete Forster energy transfer from I to II. These devices sho...
Efficient Ceria-Supported Rhodium Nanoparticles as an Electrocatalyst for Hydrogen Evolution
Akbayrak, Merve; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (The Electrochemical Society, 2019-12-13)
Rh-0/CeO2 catalystwas prepared by the reduction of Rh+3 ions on CeO2 surface and characterized by transmission electron microscopy, inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and powder X-ray diffractometry techniques. To investigate its electrocatalytic activity for H-2 evolution reaction, a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was modified with Rh-0/CeO2. The modified electrode was found to exhibit a high electrocatalytic activity (turnover frequency (TOF): 1.56 s(...
