In various fields, carbonaceous nanofillers, especially graphene, play a promising role due to their broad area of applications which result from their quite good structural and functional characteristics. This paper reviews the use of graphene as a novel substitution in poly(ether ether ketone (PEEK) as a filler. Moreover, we focused on applications of PEEK/graphene nanocomposites. Furthermore, detailed information about the characterization of the nanocomposites is given. Discussion and analysis of the substantial changes in the mechanical and electrical properties of the polymer matrix are also presented. This is of great relevance since in the long term it can be assumed that certain class B structural parts of aircrafts can be produced by use of these composites.

A comprehensive approach for the instability of PbTe quantum dots and design of a combinatorial passivation strategy
Hacıefendioğlu, Tuğba; Solmaz, Taha K.; Erkan, Merve; Asil Alptekin, Demet (Elsevier BV, 2020-04-01)
Limited air stability circumvents the outstanding properties of the PbTe quantum dots (QDs) and hinders its utilization in the field of optoelectronics. In this respect, we present a detailed understanding on the instability of the PbTe QDs and develop a combinatorial passivation protocol based on engineering the QD surface during the growth phase and solid state ligand exchange process. The dual passivation approach yields thin films and solar cells with outstanding stabilities under ambient conditions. Pr...
A study of phase stability and mechanical properties of hydroxylapatite-nanosize alpha-alumina composites
Evis, Zafer (Elsevier BV, 2007-04-01)
Hydroxylapatite (HA)-nanosize alumina composites were synthesized to study their phase stability and mechanical properties. To make these composites, nanosize alpha-Al2O3 powder was used because of its better sinterability and densification as compared to nanosize gamma-Al2O3. The composites were air sintered without pressure and hot pressed in vacuum at 1100 degrees C and 1200 degrees C. In the composites, HA decomposed to tricalcium phosphate faster after the air sintering than hot pressing. Moreover, hex...
A novel in-operation high g-survivable MEMS gyroscope
Azgın, Kıvanç; Akın, Tayfun (2007-10-31)
This paper presents a new S01-MEMS gyroscope with very high in-operation shock survivability together with very low R 2 nonlinearity and scale factor g-sensitivity, owing to its optimized mechanical structure and durable readout electronics. Maximum stress induced on the gyro structure under a shock loading of 10,000g is determined to be below 860MPa. The new gyroscope also allows keeping the proof mass voltage within the supply voltages of readout electronics, preventing the possibility of electronic failu...
A joint density functional and classical molecular dynamics study on interface characteristics of graphene and polyetheretherketone
Sert, Elif; Toffoli, Hande; Department of Physics (2020-10-9)
Graphene is a single layer allotrope of carbon with a honeycomb arrangement of atoms, characterized by excellent mechanical properties such as high tensile strength, high Young’s modulus as well as desirable electrical properties such as high electron mobility. Due to these superior properties, it is considered an important material in numerous technological applications. Among these, graphene-polymer composites have attracted significant interest in the materials research community in recent years. T...
A review on modeling and simulation of quenching
Şimşir, Caner; Gür, Cemil Hakan (2010-01-01)
Modeling and simulation of quenching are powerful tools in the design, optimization, and understanding of the quenching process since they provide quantitative results such as the evolution of microstructure and the internal stresses, which are practically impossible to acquire experimentally. The research on simulation of quenching and related phenomena originates from the early 70s and is still an active field owing to its industrial and scientific output. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive review...
