A review on modeling and simulation of quenching

Gür, Cemil Hakan
Modeling and simulation of quenching are powerful tools in the design, optimization, and understanding of the quenching process since they provide quantitative results such as the evolution of microstructure and the internal stresses, which are practically impossible to acquire experimentally. The research on simulation of quenching and related phenomena originates from the early 70s and is still an active field owing to its industrial and scientific output. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive review of those studies and to present the state of the art with a discussion of limitations and drawbacks of contemporary models with an emphasis on the complementary steps that have to be taken in collaboration with the industry

Computer Solutions of Plane Strain Axisymmetric Thermomechanical Problems
Eraslan, Ahmet Nedim (2005-08-01)
A simple computational model is developed to estimate elastic, elastic-plastic, fully plastic, and residual stress states in generalized plane strain axisymmetric structures considering temperature dependent physical properties as well as nonlinear isotropic strain hardening. Using the von Mises yield criterion, total deformation theory and a Swift-type nonlinear hardening law, a single nonlinear differential equation governing thermoelastoplastic behavior is obtained. A shooting technique using Newton iter...
Comparison of methods for robust parameter design of products and processes with an ordered categorical response
Bacanlı Karabulut, Gonca; Köksal, Gülser; Department of Industrial Engineering (2013)
Robust design of products or processes with categorical response has more momentous role in industrial experiments for quality improvements, because ordinal categorical quality characteristics are encountered more frequent than continuous ones in industry. In this study, five optimization methods for an ordered categorical response are compared with each other: Logistic Regression Model Optimization (LRMO), Accumulation Analysis (AA), Weighted Signal-to-noise Ratio (WSNR), Scoring Scheme (SS), and Weighted ...
A review on capability and maturity models of building ınformation modelling
Yılmaz, Gökçen; Akçamete Güngör, Aslı; Demirörs, Onur (null; 2017-07-07)
Process assessment and maturity models in software engineering are widely used for process improvement. Likewise, assessing BIM capability and maturity have important effects on increasing BIM performance and enhancing benefits of BIM usage. Thus, there are various BIM capability and maturity models in the literature which are important for users to be able to select appropriate model for their BIM assessment purposes. This study aims to identify and analyse BIM capability and maturity models in the constru...
Numerical calculation of backfilling of scour holes
Sumer, B Mutlu; Baykal, Cüneyt; Fuhrman, David R; Jacobsen, Niels G; Fredsoe, Jorgen (2014-12-04)
A fully-coupled hydrodynamic and morphologic CFD model is presented for simulating backfilling processes around structures. The hydrodynamic model is based on Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations, coupled with two-equation k-ω turbulence closure. The sediment transport model consists of separate bed and suspended load descriptions, the latter based on a turbulent diffusion equation coupled with a reference concentration function near the sea bed boundary. Bed morphology is based on the sediment continu...
