© 2021 Taylor & Francis Group, LondonIn this paper, practical techniques are introduced for detailed modelling of soil-pile and soil-abutment interaction effects for integral bridges (IBs). Furthermore, a parametric study is conducted to determine appropriate structural configurations and geotechnical properties to enhance the seismic performance of IBs. For this purpose, numerous nonlinear structural models of a two-span IB including dynamic soil-bridge interaction effects are built. Nonlinear time history analyses (NTHA) of the IB models are then conducted using a set of ground motions with various intensities. In the analyses, the effect of various structural and geotechnical properties such as foundation soil stiffness, backfill compaction level, pile size and orientation, abutment height and thickness are considered. The results of NTHA are then used to assess the effects of these properties on the seismic performance of IBs. The parametric study revealed that softer foundation soils provide an isolation effect enhancing the seismic performance of IBs. Furthermore, IBs built with shorter and thinner abutments as well as large steel H-piles oriented to bend about their strong axis exhibit better seismic performance.

Structural, electronic and mechanical properties of W1-xTcxB2 alloys
Sürücü, Gökhan; Colakoglu, K.; Deligoz, E.; ÇİFTCİ, YASEMİN (2013-10-01)
A detailed theoretical study of the structural, elastic and electronic properties of W1-xTcxB2 (x=0.1 similar to 0.9) alloys is carried out by using the plane-wave pseudopotential approach to the density-functional theory within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). The most stable structure is found as W0.9Tc0.1B2 due to the lowest formation energy value and Band filling theory. Furthermore, the band structural and density of states (DOS) are computed for each composition x (0.1 similar to 0.9). Th...
Structural and electronic properties of GaP nanowires
Mohammad, Rezek; Katırcıoğlu, Şenay (2015-09-01)
Structural stability and electronic properties of bare and hydrogenated GaP nanowires in zinc-blende and wurtzite phases have been investigated using first-principles calculations based on density functional theory. It is determined that relaxation of the hydrogenated GaP nanowires is very small compared to that of their bare ones. The wurtzite structural hydrogenated GaP nanowires are found more stable than the zinc-blende structural ones by cohesive energy calculations. It is obtained that all the bare an...
Structural and event based multimodal video data modeling
Oztarak, Hakan; Yazıcı, Adnan (2006-01-01)
In this paper, a structural and event based multimodal video data model (SEBM) is proposed. SEBM supports three different modalities that are visual, auditory and textual modalities for video database systems and it can dissolve these three modalities within a single structure. This dissolving procedure is a mimic of human interpretation regarding video data. The SEBM video data model is used to answer content-based, spatio-temporal and fuzzy queries about video data. A SEBM prototype system is developed to...
