Published on behalf of ECS by IOP Publishing Limited.Oxygen evolution reactions (OERs) have sluggish kinetics, which limits the hydrogen generation from the electrolysis of water. In this regard, various metal oxides based electrocatalysts that contain precious metals such as Pt, Ir, Rh, and Ru have been developed for OERs in the literature In this work, Ir nanoparticles were impregnated on the surface of metal oxides (MO2; M = Ti, Zr, and Ce) using a simple and ecologically acceptable approach (reduction and impregnation in water). The electrocatalytic performance of the prepared catalysts (Ir/MO2) was tested for OER in an alkaline medium. The results show that the onset potentials of Ir/MO2 catalysts have slight variations (1.552 V vs RHE for Ir@CeO2, 1.554 V vs RHE for Ir@ZrO2, and 1.598 V vs RHE for Ir@TiO2) in this reaction. The overpotential and the Tafel slope values of these catalysts were also compared and it was found that the Ir@CeO2 catalyst provided the lowest overpotential value (η 10 = 0.379 V vs RHE) and the lowest Tafel slope value (b = 93.4 mV.dec−1). Herein, the activity and stability of Ir@CeO2 towards OER in alkaline media were investigated in detail with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, chronoamperometry, and linear sweep voltammograms taken at different temperatures.

All rights reserved.Tensilely strained germanium has been considered a suitable material platform for the realization of a monolithically integrated infrared laser that could allow the development of miniaturized photonic integrated circuits. The crystalline quality of germanium is one of the concerns in this regard since it has to be in the high-quality single-crystal form to endure the required amounts of tensile strain so that the material turns into a gain medium. For t...
A MEMS based drug effect analysis system utilizing droplet microfluidics
Özkan, Metin Dündar; Külah, Haluk; Yıldırım, Ender; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2018)
This thesis proposes a fully integrated lab-on-a-chip system designed for drug effect analysis based on the droplet microfluidics. It is mainly designed for screening multi-drug responses of cells in an automated operation. The distinguished feature of the drug screening system is that it includes droplet-based single cell encapsulation. The system includes two main subsystems which are parylene-based and normally closed electrostatic microvalves and droplet generation system. The integration of microvalves...
Novel Touch-Trigger Probe for Coordinate Measuring Machines
Karuc, Emre; Dölen, Melik (2010-09-10)
A novel touch-trigger probe system is proposed in this paper. The probe houses the stylus shaft on a special diaphragm spring that is exclusively designed with the utilization of Finite Element Analysis (FEA). In the probe system, Giant Magneto-Resistive (GMR) sensors are employed to measure the motion of the stylus shaft in the principal directions. The proposed (and implemented) probe is tested on a three-axis CNC electrical discharge machine (EDM) and the results acquired from those experiments are discu...
